This paper presents a multi-perspective modeling and holistic simulation framework that can address such a complexity. It is based on the holistic integration of models that have independently been built from the respective perspectives of various but interdependent dimensions. The resulting model can answer questions that any of the perspective-specific models cannot in isolation.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131787369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Machine tools must become more intelligent, in order to create a network of fully connected machines. By extension, this will lead to the creation of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Although these technologies provide for increased functionality of the manufacturing equipment, there are certain issues/implications, refraining engineers from integrating such technologies in the production. Therefore, in this paper, the results of a systematic literature review are presented and discussed, including the horizontal and vertical integration of such digital technologies. The contribution of this paper extends to the recognition of the opportunities emerging as well as the identified implications from a practical implementation point of view.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130850970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

KPIs are measured at the operational level, but are used to manage organizations at the strategic level. Strategic goals often change, and professionals with different backgrounds must understand and implement new KPIs that correspond to them. Nowadays, KPIs are designed and directly implemented on running organizations, which is disturbing to operational personnel. To avoid the disruption of business processes, we propose to design and test KPIs through simulation. After satisfactory experiments, a KPI can be implemented on the modelled organization. We have developed a conceptual reference model to organize KPI design simulation projects, showing what should be produced in a project. Our model has been built by the application of requirements engineering methods to the review of the literature of performance indicators. The model has been tested on several case studies. In this paper, we show two studies that demonstrate how unspecified concepts from our conceptual reference model damage reliability and improvement orientation of the designed indicators.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122237615","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These components feature shapes with little features and minor differences. After processing the building plans for the classification, feature analysis methods, as well as machine learning based approaches, are tested. The results of the classification methods are compared and the behaviors of the classification methods are analyzed. First results have shown, that neural network classification using line data extracted via Hough transformation and additional calculations surpass other classification methods tested in this work. It was found that the basic structure of building plan components can be detected with neural networks, but further improvements have to be made, if only a single classification process is to be relied on. In the future this work will be used to create 3D building models from 2D plans and enable agent based simulation in the models.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121342332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In many cases, the complexity of a procedure requires a decision-making process to evaluate the correct choice to be adopted in a specific situation. To this concern, the operator is subject to the mental workload to identify the proper strategy to be applied for each case. In the scientific literature, a model that allows evaluating the task complexity of a procedur e, through the ‘Shannon Entropy’ applied to graphs, was proposed by J. Park. Similarly, the mental workload of an operator in performing cognitive-oriented tasks was studied by G. Salvendy. Consistently to these topics, the authors propose a new model to estimate the mental workload of an operator during the execution of cognitive-oriented tasks of safety or maintenance procedures. The model has been applied to a numerical simulation; results obtained showed how the complexity of cognitive-oriented tasks of safety or maintenance procedures allows affecting the mental workload. The model can be usefully adopted to design emergency (safety) or maintenance procedures by considering the expected mental workload of operators in performing cognitive-oriented tasks.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"2013 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114926346","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective of this work is to investigate more complex decision support system in the area of train overtaking within railway stations and to assess the level of benefits that this approach brings. The presented algorithm is valid in general conditions, but it is also validated in connection with simulation tool OpenTrack which is one of the leading simulation tools in the area of railway traffic simulations focused especially on railway lines. Possible solutions to this problem that are available in OpenTrack are considerably less sophisticated and their configuration is often not very intuitive. This topic is also discussed in greater detail in the paper. To show the advantages of this advanced decision-making approach, a case study that compares common and advanced decision-making approaches is presented.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129579674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, methods for accurate measuring optical parameters and thickness of light-guiding polymer films are important. We present new approach and numerical algorithm for calculating refractive index, extinction coefficient and thickness of anisotropic polymer films from angular reflection spectra measured by prism coupling technique. The proposed algorithm is valid both in the «low» and «high» coupling limits and takes into consideration the angular divergence of the Gaussian probe beam. Light-guiding film of proprietary amorphous perfluorinated polymer was fabricated on silicon substrate with thermally grown silica oxide layer. Angular reflectivity spectra of polymer film were measured with TE and TM polarized Gaussian laser beams using the prism coupling technique. Refractive index n , extinction coefficient m and thickness H f of the film were calculated numerically from reflectivity spectra using the new strategy and fitting algorithm. It was shown that the developed approach is effective and permits to determine n and m of anisotropic polymer films with accuracy 1 10 -4 and 1 10 -5 correspondingly.","PeriodicalId":204585,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 32nd European Modeling & Simulation Symposium (EMSS 2020)","volume":"133 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115545889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
