The inability for a programmer to shift to a new PP could cause some potential problems to their programming solutions. In this paper, a preliminary analysis to uncover several research questions and potential problems that impact the shift of PPs was conducted. Since the main programming workforce comes from the institution of higher learning, the institution's current implementation of PP courses will be discussed. In order to get current and professional views on PPs, difficulty of learning a new PP and the importance of PPs in the industry, an online close-ended survey was deployed to a group of experienced computing and computer-related professionals. Since postgraduate (PG) Computer Science (CS) students have substantial experience learning PPs and the CS field in general, several PG CS students were also informally interviewed. The results from the survey, informal interview and cited literature were used to support the development of the research questions. From the survey, many stressed that PPs are essential to understand in order to work in the industry. Also, it has been found from the survey that poor teaching style is the main contributor for the difficulty of learning a new PP.","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"129 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127387652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A growing academic interest also has acknowledged and highlighted this cyber trend. Researchers highly welcome and encourage lay Muslims to express their opinions, and so knot them together within the bond of a global family. This world-wide community is often known as “imagine community,” “digital umma” or “virtual umma”. Perceiving this new community is fascinating, but fraught with the challenges to define the “virtual umma” because the Internet is too huge and too disorganized. To provide substance to the abstract concept of virtual umma, and to make the opaque movement less diffuse, this paper proposes a faith based Top Level Domain (TLD) extension to set a boundary to the idea. Still, the new community on the cyber space will continue to benefit from being “deterritorialized,”1 and will allow the expansion of umma on a global scale. A faith-based TLD will introduce and ensure an inherent growth of an ontology for any specific domain (problem space) i.e. `Islam' or `Muslim.' These domain ontologies contain a conceptual schema which ensures the domain-specific quality of the schemas to develop a robust collective knowledge system [9].","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123144565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the other hand, it will also cause several problems to consumers such as the issue of privacy and security. The main purpose of this paper is to describe and identify the level of knowledge, attitude and practices of consumers in e-commerce transactions in four residential areas in Muar Johore. The totals of 104 respondents who had practiced e-commerce were systematically randomly selected. Questionnaires were used as a tool for collecting data and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) had been utilised for data analysis. The results show that there was significant relationship between the consumers' knowledge and consumer purchasing practices of-e-commerce (r=0.251*, p<;0.05). It means the higher the level of knowledge, the better the practices and vice versa. The study also shows that there was significant correlation between consumers' attitude and their practices in e-commerce purchasing (r=0.197*, p<;0.05). Therefore, if the consumers' attitude towards e-commerce is positive, it is more likely that they will engage in e-commerce transaction. For policy implication, government should continue promoting and enhancing consumers' awareness and knowledge with the introduction of government policies which are beneficial to consumers.","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116941079","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, design features are widely regarded as vital tools that influence website use. However, few studies have devoted significant attention to Islamic website design features that influence website use. The purpose of this study is to identify and explore the most important design features of Islamic websites that influence website use. The study conducted a content analysis on selected Islamic website studies, in which 86 design features were identified, selected, modified, and categorized into six broad features (factors). Ann online survey of 89 Muslim users of Islamic websites was then conducted to rank the identified design features in terms of their importance to the users. The findings of the exploratory factor analysis provide evidence to suggest that only few design features are considered important by Islamic website users. These design features possess highly significant factor-loading and are grouped under “functionality”, “navigation”, “interactivity”, “attractiveness”, “organization”, and “security/privacy”. The study found the above design features to be significant in influencing Islamic website use.","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130373470","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be characterized by a severe difficulty in reading, learning, spelling, memorizing as well as sequencing activities. In this work, the participants' electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were monitored during resting situation. These signals are captured from the scalp of each subject to measure the brain activities during both eyes opened and eye closed scenarios. Features from the EEG signals were extracted using the Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) and classified using the Multilayer Perceptron (MLP). Due to the large number of features extracted, relevant features are then selected by grouping various spectral components and eliminating irrelevant features. For a comparison purpose, brain signals of three children who are diagnosed of having dyslexia by medical practitioners (denoted as dyslexic) and the other three children diagnosed otherwise (denoted as normal) are used. Experimental results shown that there is a clear distinction between dyslexic and normal children during both eyes closed and eyes opened scenario. Hence, further works can be extended for early intervention in such a way that these children can be further assisted to cope with their learning experience.","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124456103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To clarify the misconception, it is suggested that an assurance be given by a reputable Islamic religious authority to the effect that Internet seller complies with an Islamic law (Shariah) -compliant e-commerce model. However, Muslim consumers' perception in this regard is yet to be measured. To fill this gap, the present work presents a comprehensive testable research framework that can be used to investigate the Muslim consumers' perceived behavior in e-commerce environment. In addition to third party assurance from an Islamic religious authority, the other factors such as trustworthiness of Internet sellers, perceived risk of online transaction and quality of the websites also have been included in the framework.","PeriodicalId":204533,"journal":{"name":"2013 5th International Conference on Information and Communication Technology for the Muslim World (ICT4M)","volume":"13 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121008418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
