This study used the qualitative transpersonal research method of intuitive inquiry. In this unique methodology, the researcher is able to draw on both intellect and intuition while moving through a five-cycle hermeneutical process. The main research focus of interest was the practices that nine participants interviewed developed or are still developing during their integration phase, and the support system of individuals who accompanied their journey. The goal of integration is to merge the psychedelic experience with a person’s daily life in a way that helps them live a fuller life with less distress, and to maximize benefits while minimizing harm in an integral lifestyle context. Two pillars have been identified which optimize integration: the integral practices executed on a daily, weekly, and/or monthly basis, and the support system helping process and translate the experience (e.g. coach, therapist, mentor, guide). As non-clinical psychedelic use increases and psychedelic-assisted therapy gains mainstream acceptance, it is critical to maximize integration that an individual has a myriad of integral practices that touch on physical, mental, emotional, interpersonal, and spiritual domains. This integral development process can be better supported by a transpersonal support system, since the psychedelic experience can surface transpersonal content which is often difficult to frame.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"53 34","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138946142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While extensive research has focused on the physical symptoms and treatments of IBD, there is a significant gap in understanding the overall well-being experience of individuals living with this currently incurable condition. This study aimed to address this gap by using a transpersonal lens to explore the perception and experience of well-being among six adult Australians with IBD. Here, well-being was viewed as the balance of resources and challenges in the physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of the unique human experience. Through pre-interview meditation, whole-person focused interviews, thematic analysis, and reflection, seven key themes emerged: connection with others, growth and development, limitations, self, shame and guilt, treatment and action, and uncertainty. The findings acknowledge the multifaceted nature of well-being for individuals with the condition and emphasise the value and importance of considering the whole person in future studies and treatments of IBD. The integration of transpersonal therapy, alongside medical approaches, is proposed as a promising step forward.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"28 23","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138947099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It acknowledged societal obstacles mothers’ experience when attempting to breastfeed and included 12 participants who had a breastfeeding experience that reflects the current recommendations by the World Health Organization (WHO), meaning six months of exclusive breastfeeding followed by a combination of breastfeeding and solid foods for at least two years. The study followed an Organic Inquiry design which allowed for the incorporation of elements of feminism and environmental responsibility. Participant stories were collected through semi-structured online interviews, and the data was analysed using thematic analysis. Participants felt that breastfeeding enhanced transpersonal qualities at a personal level and noticed that these gave rise to transformative action at a community level. Six themes were identified: Transpersonal self-concept, spiritual insights, interconnectedness, discernment, alignment with nature and transformative changes. All participants regarded breastfeeding as a transformative experience which contributed to a sense of alignment with the natural world. Participants insights suggest a congruence of transpersonal psychology’s current focus on social engagement and environmental protection and global breastfeeding support efforts carried out by the WHO.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"13 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138946002","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many teachers were forced to quickly pivot to online teaching, prompting me to engage in heuristic inquiry (Moustakas, 1990), a qualitative research method, to explore the subjective living experiences of these teachers, including my own. Taking all ethical aspects into consideration, I carried out semi-structured interviews with eight teacher “co-researchers”. Analysis of interviews uncovered themes which were illustrated through individual depictions and a composite depiction. The discussion looked at findings in the data in relation to relevant literature and through a transpersonal lens. The data suggested that it is the quality of the teacher-student relationship, emanating from teacher presence, which could potentially overcome the challenges of pivoting to online teaching and create transformative learning. Finally, the limitations of the study were explored and areas for future research identified.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"44 12","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139164406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this phenomenological study was to find common healing experiences among practitioners of Shibari. Within a framework of 10 semi-structured interviews, the study explored phenomenological experiences of individual practitioners. The following transpersonal topics surfaced dominantly throughout the interviews in reference to potential healing experiences: transformation and catharsis, embodiment and empowerment, communication and community; elucidating healing and transformative potential of Shibari practice. The study contributes to a growing field currently being explored by transpersonal psychologists and BDSM enthusiasts and promotes a more expansive way to look at these experiences as a path towards human wholeness and awareness within the practice and beyond.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"40 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138946680","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This generated a deeper understanding of tattoos from the essence of indigenous knowledge and why its revival is important in our current world context. The qualitative approach of intuitive inquiry was chosen for its creative and intuitive alignment with the subject of tattooing. The five hermeneutical cycles of intuitive inquiry aligned with the five stages of tattooing. Ten participants with personally meaningful tattoos were interviewed. Thematic analysis was applied to the data and five themes emerged: Ritual, symbol / non-verbal communication, pain, altered state / sacred dimension, and transformation. These themes were explored, revealing altered states of consciousness and embodiment, resulting in personal growth and an expansion in worldview. This research suggests that tattoos can be cultural and natural symbols carrying our stories and meaning through time, while restoring relationship to ourselves and a unified consciousness.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"60 11","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138945878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants (N = 136) completed an online survey about their non-psychedelic mystical experience, which included the MEQ43 and its subset of items that make up the MEQ30. Confirmatory Factor Analysis revealed that the MEQ30 was not a good fit for the present study’s non-psychedelic sample. Exploratory Factor Analysis of the MEQ43 suggested that an alternative set of items and corresponding factors may be more appropriate. In the new four-factor instrument (MEQ25), 25 items account for all MEQ43 factors. The new factors are Sacred Unity, Noetic Quality, Time-Space Transcendence, and Ineffable and Paradoxical. The new scale demonstrated excellent internal reliability (α = .93) and strong convergent validity with the M-Scale. The new scale is unique because it has a separate factor for noetic quality, which is considered a salient and therapeutic aspect of mystical experience. Furthermore, the refined time-space subscale better reflects the theory and subjective experience of non-psychedelic mystical experiences.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"55 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139263800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It explored the lived experience of four Israelis and three Palestinians who participated in or facilitated peacebuilding initiatives rooted in spiritual, holistic, and integrative methods. Simultaneously, such peace initiatives were joined and observed through the direct participation of the researcher in three transpersonal peacebuilding endeavours. Constructivist grounded theory was chosen as the study’s methodology, as it is particularly valuable for exploring complex and multifaceted phenomena and as it focuses on understanding the multiple realities and perspectives of participants. The results indicate that peacebuilding events entrenched in transpersonal approaches emphasize the painful but necessary exposure of Israeli and Palestinian opposing narratives by applying a variety of integrative approaches during these events. Three main themes emerged from the data analysis: (1) Humanizing connections, (2) the role and power of semiotic signs, and (3) manifestations of change. These themes provided the foundation for the creation of the dual narratives integration model, contributing to the field’s understanding of these complex and multifaceted peace initiatives.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"37 3-4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139265185","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This case study examines a real-life experience, investigating the inner transformative journey of a senior business leader, followed by a collective transformation of the company he worked for. An in-depth understanding was formulated through multiple data sources: interviews, associate surveys, reports, office images and meeting protocols. Six themes emerged: preparation, the leaders’ journey of dissolution, the organization’s soul encounter, metamorphosis, enactment and actualization of the senior leader. These themes were explored in relation to the experience of other global business leaders, followed by an exploration of a calling for leadership transformation which aimed to cope with uncertainty and rapid change, and finally, the impact on the organization, when leadership matured from silo and individual-thinking to a common-purpose direction. A description was written to explore the essence of each step of the transformative journey, starting from the senior leader and followed by a collective shift of the organization’s identity.  This lived experience shows what can be achieved in an organization when people feel deeply connected with each other and part of a greater purpose, beyond organizational structures.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"191 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131746807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can be self-induced through meditative practices or taking psychoactive substances and therapeutically induced through processes like hypnotic induction. They are determined physiologically when brain rhythms drop from the usual rhythm of waking consciousness to the slower rhythms of meditation and dreaming sleep. ASC offers a window into the workings of the psyche. This qualitative Grounded Theory pilot study explored commonalities of ASC experience through the lens of four therapeutic modalities - Hypnotherapy, Past-life Regression, Internal Family Systems Therapy and Soul-Centred Healing. The research findings were based on twelve interviews with a trainer, practitioner, and client from these four therapeutic systems. In exploring their inner worlds through ASC, the common themes of this limited research suggested the participants’ conviction in a transpersonal element of human consciousness that transcends the physicality of their current life. These experiences were seen as part of a journey of individuation to higher states of consciousness. The multiplicity of the different inner world elements was also recognised, containing various characters sometimes known as sub-personalities, ego-states or simply “parts”.","PeriodicalId":202665,"journal":{"name":"Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology","volume":"47 3","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132791772","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
