Based on an appropriate characterization of the transistor output conductance and its higher order derivatives, the gate-to-source bias voltage may be selected for optimizing the conversion loss, while the use of a small drain-to-source bias value helps improving its linearity. Simulation and measurement results are provided, demonstrating a significant reduction of third order intermodulation distortion, about 14 dBs less than the true cold FET operation case, maintaining the same information signal level at the output","PeriodicalId":202183,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121416314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It presents a method of directly importing nonlinear measurement data into a nonlinear CAD simulator. A model named as \"truth model\" has been proposed for formulating the data. The model has been implemented in ADS and it can accurately predict the large signal behaviour of the device under CW excitations. The model's robustness on interpolation and extrapolation has been successfully verified on a 30w LDMOS device","PeriodicalId":202183,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits","volume":"197 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114923714","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A proper characterization of the transistor nonlinear behavior revealed the existence of two biasing regions where the response signal, the second harmonic or the IF component, can be generated with maximum conversion gain and phase opposition. This attractive issue has been taken advantage of, to BPSK modulate the response in two approaches: in a frequency doubling active antenna and in a phase conjugating circuit for retrodirective arrays. Aperture coupled patch radiators were designed, to integrate these modulators in low cost, compact and high performance transponders","PeriodicalId":202183,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114888116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ideal-feedback impedances are used in order to achieve particular design goals. These impedances are implemented using synthesis techniques at a later design stage. Examples of design goals are the setting of the lower or upper-frequency band edge with a given output power or the simultaneous setting of the two frequency-band edges. The nonlinear techniques are implemented on commercial harmonic balance, using auxiliary generators. The techniques have been applied to a practical frequency divider by two, with a 10.4 GHz input source","PeriodicalId":202183,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127580795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The core of the model consists of the conversion matrix of the nonlinear circuit under investigation, which represents its linearization around the large-signal state. This approach allows for a straightforward implementation in computer aided design (CAD) using the conversion matrix that is constructed from either simulation or measurements: the former is considered in this paper. We illustrate the technique by implementing this model in commercial CAD software, for the investigation of a micromixer cell suitable for UWB applications. In this paper, a behavioural modelling approach for RF and microwave mixers is presented. The model consists in the series connection of an input LTI block and a nonlinear memory-less mixer block. The novel circuit design provides the double functionality of variable phase-shifter and down-converter. Maximum conversion gain is obtained, through the optimization of a new multiharmonic load at the input of the circuit. The ranges of synchronized operation are analyzed versus the circuit parameters and the corresponding phase-shifts are calculated. An 11.3-1.55 GHz down-converter with a 3.25 GHz free-running frequency has been designed, providing a theoretical phase-shift variation at intermediate frequency up to 540deg, with a 3.9 dB conversion gain","PeriodicalId":202183,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Workshop on Integrated Nonlinear Microwave and Millimeter-Wave Circuits","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122702568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
