An important part of such studies is the generation of results through simulation and comparison with other works. We propose a tool for performing such comparisons not with other arbitrary data, but with the optimal results in a given network, obtained by building its corresponding evolving graph and performing various calculations on top of it.","PeriodicalId":200060,"journal":{"name":"Extreme Conference on Communication","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127354893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There are some WiFi for Long Distances (WiLD) networks that have been deployed successfully in forests and mountainous regions of countries such as India, Colombia and Peru, for providing Voice over IP and Internet support to health centers. In this work a real telemedicine WiFi network deployed in the Amazonian jungle of Peru is introduced. Technical and social considerations taken into account and devices used for its deployment in such a difficult context are described together with the services provided. Furthermore, performance of this multihop network is analyzed in order to provide a better insight of its behavior. As a conclusion, we describe future and present works related to the improvement of the network.","PeriodicalId":200060,"journal":{"name":"Extreme Conference on Communication","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116430725","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the opportunistic and intermittent nature of the contacts among users make it very difficult to design secure and trustworthy services for these networks. In particular, anonymous communication remains among the most difficult services to achieve.\u0000 In this paper we present FAN (Friendship based ANonymity), a primitive that exploits strong friendship relationships among users to provide source anonymity and sender-receiver unlinkability in Pocket Switched Networks. The primitive is independent of the forwarding mechanism underneath, and therefore, can be coupled with any routing protocol. As shown from our large experimental results with different real data traces, FAN outperforms the TPS scheme, its only rival that provides the same anonymity properties for Pocket Switched Networks, in terms of delay, cost, and network throughput.","PeriodicalId":200060,"journal":{"name":"Extreme Conference on Communication","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116497359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These networking techniques may also be applied in static and fairly dense scenarios for non-directed information sharing, in which nodes may but need not be connected all the time. We present different information dissemination algorithms for content sharing, taking a network formed by mostly immobile users on a beach as one example and evaluate them through simulations.","PeriodicalId":200060,"journal":{"name":"Extreme Conference on Communication","volume":"178 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121817212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Probabilistic routing performs well in such networks and has been the dominant focus of research in this area. However, creating efficient routing protocols is challenging because to reduce latency, one often needs to replicate messages thus increasing routing overhead. Network coding has been explored as a way to increase throughput in DTNs without a significant increase in overhead, and network coded routing approaches have shown promising results. In this paper, we report on our experience integrating both erasure coded and network coded routing into the well-adopted DTN2 Reference Implementation. We implement our routing module and evaluate it via small real-world field tests.","PeriodicalId":200060,"journal":{"name":"Extreme Conference on Communication","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132420950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
