The approach has significant advantages over existing methods, including the ability to isolate the transformer or eliminate current-sharing control connections. Operation of the current-sharing technique is analyzed, and experimental results from a 3-cell prototype system are presented.","PeriodicalId":19979,"journal":{"name":"PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"16 1","pages":"1073-1079 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91014167","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme employs a multi-step inverter for compensation at fundamental frequency and a PWM inverter for harmonic compensation. The inverters are decoupled in such a manner that the high-frequency harmonic compensation module uses an inverter of low power rating, while the slow-switching fundamental frequency compensation module supports most of the stresses. This decoupled topology is expected to result in a significant reduction in cost and losses associated with active VAr compensators for high-power applications. The principle of operation along with the control strategy are described. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed system.","PeriodicalId":19979,"journal":{"name":"PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"234 1","pages":"527-531 vol.1"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73511898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The control goal is to maintain the output voltage in the presence of large load perturbations by varying the switching frequency. This methodology utilizes large-scale, nonlinear switched and generalized averaged models and the resulting closed-loop system is exponentially convergent under typical operating conditions. The designer has a direct handle over the convergence rate, and the nonlinear controller requires only the usual output voltage measurements while the load variations are estimated. When compared to fixed, robust linear compensators, the performance is greatly improved as the duration of a transient is decreased more than an order of magnitude, while size of the output voltage excursion is less than half of the one typically achievable with linear compensators. The nonlinear compensator is fairly simple, as it comprises a static nonlinearity, a saturable integrator, and a few linear and logic elements.","PeriodicalId":19979,"journal":{"name":"PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"24 1","pages":"1844-1849 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78108686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses a sliding-mode controller (SMC) to achieve both output current equalization and output voltage regulation. The controller improves the dynamic performance of a parallel buck converter: the output voltage is robust against load disturbances and the output currents are very well equalized. An analysis and design of the sliding mode controller is developed. Simulation and experimental results are presented, showing a good dynamic performance of the control scheme proposed.","PeriodicalId":19979,"journal":{"name":"PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"32 1","pages":"1513-1518 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78275675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The active power device used is the MOS-controlled thyristor (MCT). The switch topology offers high levels of component integration, and increases the modular design of ACRLCs. However, the topology can cause problems due to the nonidealities of the solid-state devices. A simple solution to these problems is presented in the form of a switching sequence that allows all switches to theoretically commutate current at zero-voltage. Also, the proposed sequencing of the devices eliminates the need for snubber components. Simulation and experimental results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":19979,"journal":{"name":"PESC Record. 27th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference","volume":"25 1","pages":"1724-1730 vol.2"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77999678","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
