Forty essays written in response to a question were each evaluated by high school teachers and assigned a human score. In the first experiment, we used raw term frequency vectors of the essays and their corresponding human scores to train the neural network and obtain the machine scores. In the second experiment, we pre-processed the raw term frequency vectors using latent semantic analysis technique prior to feeding them to the neural network. The first example - an optimization of three tank hydraulic control system shows the efficiency of the OO modelling approach in control engineering education. A very efficient environment is the combination of Matlab Simulink and a Modelica based OO environment Dymola. Two different control strategies - PID and cascade control are demonstrated. The second example shows the efficiency of OO modelling approach in an industrial application. DYMOLA-Modelica was efficiently used for studying a pendulum system in a stone wool production technology in a Slovenian company. In this system linear (horizontal) movement of a bottom edge of the pendulum system is a very important technological feature in forming the secondary wool layer. The firing squad synchronization problem on cellular automata has been studied extensively for more than forty years, and a rich variety of synchronization algorithms have been proposed. In the present paper, we propose a completely new optimum-time synchronization algorithm for large-scale-of two-dimensional cellular automata. The algorithm can synchronize any two-dimensional array of size m times n in optimum m + n + max(m, n) - 3 steps. This comes with a cost of higher complexity encoder and higher computational time, which makes it difficult for real-time applications. In this paper, we present a fast intra-prediction mode selection method for H.264/AVC based on local edge information. Prior to intra prediction process, edge vectors of every pixel in a 4x4 block are totaled up to determine the edge direction. Based on the edge direction information, one directional mode is chosen and compared with the DC mode to choose the best mode with least rate distortion cost. Experimental results show that the proposed method reduces the computation complexity while it gives an almost similar visual quality of the reconstructed frame as compared to the one obtained by using exhaustive prediction method.
