The rail is modelled as elastically supported continuous beam with lumped masses. A vehicle is approximated as a discrete system consisting of three rigid masses connected with linear elastic springs. Dissipation mechanisms in the system are modelled with the linear dashpots. Two basic assumptions that are used are: a) the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and b) the separation of the wheel from the rail is not permitted. The system of differential equations of motion is solved by an implicit version of step by step method based on the direct integration technique. The algorithm is conceived on the first order predictor - (re)corrector method. The contact condition is modelled by the force method. Results of the calculations are compared with the results of measurement on the tram track. Finally, this paper presents a hybrid tool for measuring e-readiness. The hybrid model uses fuzzy logic together with array-based logic. Janosy","doi":"10.1109/AMS.2007.94","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/AMS.2007.94","url":null,"abstract":"Replacing the aging instrumentation and control system (I&C) in a nuclear power plant (NPP) is always a difficult task, even without the present energy-distribution disturbances in Europe and the more and more frequent plant-life-extension and power-up-rating projects. The NPP plant life-cycle tends to reach 50-60 years, while that of the I&C system is only 8-10 years. Not only the systems become obsolete: spare parts for the old system are practically nonexistent. Putting into operation reliable, thoroughly tested, verified and validated, approved by the authorities new systems could significantly increase the outage time of the units. However, about 90% of the work can be done off-line, by means of full scope replica simulators, and in the same time the operators become trained to these new systems, too. Taking this approach the refurbishment does not increase the outage time needed for refuelling and repair, at least not significantly. In the shortest capacitated path problem, a traffic flow occurs from a source node to a destination node in a certain direction subject to a cost constraint. In this paper, a new approach for dealing with this problem is proposed. The proposed algorithm uses a special way to build valid solutions and an improvement technique to adjust the path. Some numerical experiments are performed using randomly generated networks having 25-200 nodes. In the last almost two decades practically every element of the simulator has been upgraded, replaced because the fast development of the computer techniques made the solution a great amount earlier unsolvable problems possible. Moreover, the requirements against the simulator have also changed. Originally the simulator was used only for training the operating personnel of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, but now it is used as a \"test bed\" for new systems prior their installation on the real plant, too. The first such testing was the replacement of the Reactor Protection System with a new computerized one. For this reason the scope of the models had to be extended to cover the severe accidents, which needed a much more powerful simulator computer than the original one. The outdated control room interface system had to be replaced by a new one, because spare parts became unattainable and its service required very high cost. Only the instructor's system remained in its original form. Now the old Instructor's system has been replaced as well. All the old functions were realised by convenient full-graphic Man-Machine Interface tools. YUBIMOJI AIUEO (PYA) is an edutainment system to promote basic expressions of Kana characters (AIUEO) of Japanese hand alphabets (YUBIMOJI) to ordinary children at elementary school age. In this paper, we report how PYA is good in edutainment objectives based on the series of experiments at classrooms of Sumiyoshi Elementary School, in Kobe, Japan. The results have suggested that 1) even if the users do not like personal computers, they can use PYA and keep their interests, 2) PYA users keep the understanding about the hand alphabets longer, 3) they love the puppy hints and they are affective, and 4) they can memorize the character shapes. Authors show how selected technologies can be applied to support agent-based, dynamic microsimulation model development. Finally, references are made to the practical use and an example is presented.
