This is a process to create a 3D form of a garment by designing a two dimensional ( 2D, hereafter ) paper pattern that realizes the 3D form The core of the system is a simulator that estimates the 3D form of a garment put on a body from its paper pattern ( 2D~3D process ) and a developing program to obtain the 2D pattern that minimizes the energy required to deform it to the given 3D shape ( 3D ~2D process ). In both processes, the specific snisotropy of the mechanical properties of cloths is ecmsidered. In the 2D +3D process, the contact problem with body and geometrical nonlinearity are also taken into account. The preprocessor for the 2D+3D simulator is quite unique in that it converts an arbitrmy 2D paper pattern into a 3D surface, ecmaidering the topological operatiom ‘sewing’. Both the 2D~ 3D process and the 3D +2D process are formulated as nonlinear energy-minimum problems, and they are solved by our original method in about 10 minutes with our workstations. Once the 3D form is obtain~ the color pattern of a given cloth is mapped and displayed. As a consequence of the mechanical calculation, the distributions of the distortion and stress of the cloth are also visualized. Such information may contribute to the design of garments with consideration of physical attributes as well as visual beauty.","PeriodicalId":196837,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127572950","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

[ 11.To explain the model more fully, the paper gives an overview of the light reflection process at a surfiace, and employs an interactive graphical tool to demonstrate the reflection model’s directional behavior. To make the model more practical, the paper describes an accurate approximation of the reflection model. based on a spline surface, that is much faster to compute. The paper concludes with two animated sequences, which demonstrate some features of light reflection that are accounted for by the model. The full paper demonstrates the potential of interactive multimedia. It is written using MediaVlew [2], a system for authoring documents that include graphics, sound, video, and computer animation, CR","PeriodicalId":196837,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128850693","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If this projection involves perspective, then a division must be performed at each pixel of the projected surface in order to correctly calculate texture map coordinates. We show how a simple extension to perspective-comect texture mapping can be used to create various lighting effects, These in- clude arbitrary projection of two-dimensional images onto geom- etry, realistic spotlights, and generation of shadows using shadow maps( 10). These effects are obtained in real time using hardware that performs correct texture mapping.","PeriodicalId":196837,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126670810","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neither the topology, the presence of boundaries, nor the geometry of M are assumed to be known in advance - all are inferred automatically from the data. This problem naturally arises in a variety of practical situations such as range scanning an object from multiple view points, recovery of biological shapes from two-dimensional slices, and interactive surface sketching.","PeriodicalId":196837,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 19th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1992-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126938509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interval analysis for computer graphics 计算机图形学区间分析

{"title":"Interval analysis for computer graphics","authors":"John M. Snyder","doi":"10.1145/133994.134024","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/133994.134024","url":null,"abstract":"This paper discusses how interval analysis can be used to solve a wide variety of problems in computer graphics. These problems include ray tracing, interference detection, polygonal decomposition of parametric surfaces, and CSG on solids bounded by parametric surfaces. Only two basic algorithms are required: SOLVE, which computes solutions to a system of constraints, and MINIMIZE, which computes the global minimum of a function, subject to a system of constraints. We present algorithms for SOLVE and MINIMIZE using interval analysis as the conceptual framework. Crucial to the technique is the creation of “inclusion functions” for each constraint and function to be minimized. Inclusion functions compute a bound on the range of a function, given a similar bound on its domain, allowing a branch and bound approach to constraint solution and constrained minimization. Inclusion functions also allow the MINIMIZE algorithm to compute global rather than local minima, unlike many other numerical algorithms. Some very recent theoretical results are presented regarding existence and uniqueness of roots of nonlinear equations, and global parameterizability of implicitly described manifolds. To illustrate the power of the approach, the basic algorithms are further developed into a new algorithm for the approximation of implicit curves.
