To realize this, the environment needs to implicitly interface with biometric devices such as an eye tracker. Such development environments can help the developer detect when they need to take a break or when they need help. Besides helping the developer, researchers can also make use of such environments to study developer behavior in a realistic setting thereby improving tool support for emotional awareness as well as other software tasks.","PeriodicalId":196329,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124125142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Attendees will write code to collect data from a sensor and analyze it to compute operationalized metrics like cognitive load. These will be applied to a simple research experiment. Attendees will gain the basic knowledge needed to engage in research with psycho-physiological sensors.","PeriodicalId":196329,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering","volume":"223 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115964426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We use these sensors to understand software development activities, however, their use is not straightforward, nor is it easy. In this paper, we introduce some common sensors, along with some difficulties we encountered in using them in our experiments as well as how we worked past them. We call on everyone in our community to share best practices in sensor application and analysis in order to enable our field to grow as quickly as possible while producing robust, reliable results.","PeriodicalId":196329,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-05-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114430194","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
