The promising ability of steel fibre reinforced concrete (SFRC) to reduce the formation of cracks and increase the tensile strength of concrete has made it an attractive composite material for numerous civil construction applications. However, previous research had shown that the performance of the steel fibres on their own to replace steel reinforcements is still in doubt. Therefore, the GFRP bar is chosen due to its structural performance with flexural reinforcement with less weight and corrosion resistance. The influence of the steel fibres and GFRP bars on the two-ribbed slab flexural performance was investigated. Three (3) numbers of slab panels were cast, consisting of one solid SFRC slab (solid-SF), one SFRC ribbed slab (rib-SF), and one SFRC ribbed slab reinforced with GFRP bars (rib-SF-GFRP). All slab samples measuring 1000 mm x 1500 mm x 75 mm thickness were tested under bending and the results showed that the SFRC ribbed slab reinforced with GFRP (rib-SF-GFRP) is efficient in the flexural performance by exhibiting the highest first crack and ultimate load.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129264386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is located nearby in the Rawang neighbourhood to the north of Kuala Lumpur and has an area of around 47,000 square metres. Due to its proximity to the city, the region has become a popular place for people to enjoy picnics, camping, swimming, and jungle walks during the holidays. The movement or discharge of water flow is closely related with sediment. Since a specific discharge is necessary to propel and carry particles of a particular weight or size along the pathways. In essence, sediment estimates are so crucial because rivers in Malaysia continue to fill reservoirs with river water for daily use. Sedimentation in reservoirs can reduce the amount of accessible water, hence restricting its application. In this study, the Hjulström graph were used to predict the sediments and particles flow distributions, and the correlation between particle size and particle mobility in the flows of rivers was determined at three (3) checkpoints to examine the sediments and particles flow distributions. According to the data obtained, Checkpoint 1 has a particle velocity of around 0.4703 N/s, or 40 grammes per second, whereas Checkpoint 2 has a velocity of roughly 1.534 N/s, or 156 grammes per second. Lastly, Checkpoint 3 lacks a full load transfer. In addition to preserving one of the region's leisure areas, the significance of complete load transit estimation will ensure its maintenance. By using this method, the estimation of the total load that may be eroded along the river by calculating the total transport load can be forecasted hence, provide a maintenance program toward the rehabilitation of the Kanching Recreational Forest.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133196886","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study is to examine the concentration of several air pollutants that has been affecting the atmosphere specifically in Southeast Asia after the emergence of the pandemic. Throughout this research, the air pollution concentration is monitored using several observation satellites such as NASA GIOVANNI, Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI), and MODIS-Aqua to see the difference in air quality before and after the lockdown was implemented in the selected specific area. The average mean for the studied year of each selected pollutant was also observed to see the pattern of the air quality after the pandemic. Thailand and other northern Southeast Asian nations bordering China were found to be the most affected by transboundary pollution, which was brought on by the climatological changes that all Southeast Asian countries experienced. In addition, most Southeast Asian nations are regarded as developing countries that rely significantly on power produced by fossil fuels and individual transportation. Consequently, it significantly worsens the air pollution in the area. This study is significant as it allows the government to regulate the air quality in a specific region and it is important to monitor the air pollution in the atmosphere as it has a substantial impact on human health as well as the environment. By conducting this study, it can be seen that there are major positive changes in air quality in Southeast Asia as it is the result of the lockdown and lack of human activities in each countr","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133634219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Jengka consists of 25 FELDA plans which are palm and rubber producers. The production of Palm Oil Fly Ash (POFA) is rising every year, it is disposed of in landfills, now becoming an important environmental disposal issue. The government needs to focus on assigning more hectares of land for disposal of these huge amounts of waste, and financial losses are also increased for transporting as well as maintenance purposes of these wastes. The pollution problem is increased in this sector which includes the annual production of 2.6 million tonnes of solid waste in the form of POFA. The large quantity of this waste can create an environmental problem if disposed of in the wrong way. However, reduction of dumped waste and environmental sustainability can be ensured by proper consumption or recycling of these materials. Therefore, this research innovation used waste material of POFA in a concrete mixture to produce eco pavement block. The compliance testing for the concrete mix was investigated. The optimal mix design proportion in order to increase the compressive strength, density and durability of POFA concrete was established. Mix proportion containing 5 % POFA mixtures exhibited substantially higher rates of strength gain as compared with other mixtures containing 10 % and 15 % of POFA. The workability of POFA concrete increases, thus, the permeability and bleeding in concrete decrease. Implementation of POFA waste not only decreases environmental damage but also saves concrete materials.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134512691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates the level of knowledge, awareness and behaviour of Malaysian society on the impact of climate change (Case study in Klang Valley). Adopting a descriptive survey research design, a self-designed questionnaire entitled \"Climate Change Awareness” was conducted on a sample of 467 respondents from three (3) main groups (university students, public and government servants). Cronbach's alpha (α) for this study is 0.749, indicating an acceptable level of internal reliability of the scale with this specific sample. The finding indicates that most of the respondents have an average level of knowledge (41.22%) from different levels of education. The level of awareness and behaviour among the respondents was also very weak and fragile. Approximately 55.3% of respondents are not aware of the impact of climate change on the environment, economy and human health. Although the government has promoted its initiatives and policy regarding climate change, it cannot be presumed that the society is having a high level of knowledge awareness and behaviour about climate change. In addition, this study also measured the effectiveness of the national policy on climate change in Malaysian society. This study offers the decision makers some fundamental insights regarding public knowledge, awareness and behaviour towards climate change that could potentially assist in promoting responsive policies and strategies to reduce the impact of climate change.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128934243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ever-increasing stockpiles of unutilized Coal Fly Ash (CFA) and Bottom Ash (CBA) are a growing health and environmental concern. Studies have shown that communities living near ash ponds are subjected to an increased risk of respiratory illness, and the stockpiles can also potentially cause environmental pollution due to leachate. The potential utilization of CFA and CBA is to use them as natural aggregate substitutes for construction materials such as mortar, bricks and precast concrete. This paper aims to review recent studies on the usage of CFA and CBA in producing brick and precast concrete blocks, the changes in the properties of the CFA or CBA bricks and precast concrete blocks compared to control samples, as well as the effects of seawater intrusion into the concrete mix, which indicate the potential effects of using CFA and CBA stored in coastal ash ponds.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115244875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Finite Element Method was used in this work to assess the stress and deformation of Semenyih Dam, an earth dam in Selangor that was resting under hydrostatic pressure. The second objective is to study the Semenyih dam’s seismic response due to the Ranau Earthquake loading. The analysis of the Semenyih Dam’s structural performance under historical seismic loading from the Ranau Earthquake with a peak ground acceleration of 0.013g was done using the LUSAS Modeller 14.3 software. As a result, it was discovered that the dam’s deformation and displacement caused by the Ranau earthquake with hydrostatic pressure was larger, at 5.33 mm, as opposed to 1.822 mm when there was no hydrostatic pressure. The dam’s deformation is different in the two scenarios. When the Ranau earthquake combined with hydrostatic pressure, the dam deformed significantly. From the bottom of the dam to the top, there was an increase in stress distribution. Both hydrostatic pressure and an earthquake would put further strain on the dam. Semenyih Dam’s maximum stress is 189.152 N/m2 (with hydrostatic pressure), 27.4948 N/m2 (without hydrostatic pressure), which are less than the silty clay’s 290 kN/m2 allowable stress capacity. According to the investigation, when a dam is subjected to a variety of loads and forces, the stress distribution within it increases.","PeriodicalId":194820,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Sustainable Civil Engineering and Technology","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116049830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
