A conventional wireless home network secured based on WPA has a critical security hole when a guest device revisits your home network. Once a pre-shared key (PSK) is exposed to the guest device, the device can connect your home network at any time without additional permission. In order to solve this problem, the proposed mechanism keeps the PSK on a smart card, which provides only temporal keys to the guest device. It also supports usability by minimizing user interaction steps and being based on an intuitive mental model.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130664179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, application development for mobile ad-hoc networks is not easy. Obviously, solving these issues for each application from scratch is not a feasible approach. Instead, developing middleware services to support the development of such applications is a novel approach that will offer many possibilities, and considerable flexibility for ad hoc networking. This survey shows the current state of the research, in this domain by presenting and discussing some representative middleware for wireless MANET. The selection of the studied methods tries to cover as many views of objective reflections as possible. We concentrate on discovering similarities and differences between the studied approaches by making comparisons, evaluation and appropriateness studies. Then we argue that most of the work is at fledging stage and there is still a long way to go for such middleware to fully meet MANET applications requirements.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121565587","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With increased mobility of users, together with the availability of a variety of viewing devices, the need for video consumption ‘anytime’, ‘anywhere’, ‘anyhow’ has been growing. This paper presents a model to support the above needs using entities called virtual content container (VCCs). The VCCs facilitate the selection of video content of interest, and subsequent consumption in time/space delayed manner, and provide flexibilities of viewing times, locations, and devices.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128125296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We compare the performance of the proposed DFSA algorithm with the conventional algorithms using simulation. The problems are related to collision that is caused by multiple access to a piconet; and the collision resolution that is used in the MBOA MAC, i.e. random slot allocation for devices’ beacons. The collision problem and the current resolution may cause deadlock and prevent other devices from joining a piconet. We propose new solutions to resolve the collision without causing potential deadlock. We develop an analytical model to evaluate performance of the new schemes. The model can also be employed to determine parameters to achieve optimized performance.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133092968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, a new generation of mobile blogs, termed “moBlogs”, is emerging. Conceptually similar to textual Web logs, moBlogs collect text, images, audio and video, captured by mobile devices, and make them available on-line. In addition, the availability of different connectivity options on board the same portable phone (from Bluetooth, through 2.5/3G to WLAN) can improve the ability of the phone users to browse and update the moBlogs of interest to them. Within this scenario, in order to simplify the development of mobile applications for smart portable phones, and to enhance their reusability, it is necessary to provide those applications with appropriate communication support that shields them from the heterogeneities of the multiple connectivity options mentioned above. In this sense, the paper presents an applicationtransparent middleware designed and developed to provide mobile applications with end-to-end, Always Best Connected (ABC), and seamless connectivity, even in case of handoff events and network interface reconfigurations.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"37 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132810826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These modes of content consumption have drawbacks such as inflexibility of having access to any desired content at any time, from anywhere, and consuming on any device. This paper proposes a content management system model which uses entities called personal content portfolios (PCPs) based on concepts from financial systems. Using aggregates of PCPs, the content management system manages large pools of content in an optimal manner and offers content and a variety of services in a cost-effective manner to consumers. Some major benefits and issues to be addressed in the design and use of PCPs are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":194551,"journal":{"name":"CCNC 2006. 2006 3rd IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference, 2006.","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-02-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132261847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
