Çabuk, Ahmet Dabanli","doi":"10.20409/berj.2021.351","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.20409/berj.2021.351","url":null,"abstract":"COVID-19 pandemisi, 2008 yılında gerçekleşen küresel finans krizinden sonra görülen en derin ve geniş çaplı bir ekonomik krizi tetiklemiştir. Pandeminin iç talep, dış ticaret ve turizm kanallarıyla ortaya çıkan olumsuz etkilerini en aza indirmek için küresel çapta parasal ve mali tedbirler uygulamaya konulmuştur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Avro Bölgesi ülkeleri kapsamında COVID-19 pandemisinin neden olduğu değişimlerin makroekonomik göstergeleri nasıl etkilediğinin belirlenmesidir. Çalışma kapsamında elde edilen bulgular coğrafibilgi sistemleri (CBS) ortamında haritalandırılmıştır. Bu çalışmada pandeminin Avro Bölgesi ülkeleri üzerindeki ekonomik etkileri, başta ülke ekonomilerinin gücünü ve kalkınmışlık düzeylerini değerlendirmenin en önemli ölçütleri arasında yer alan gayri safiyurtiçi hasıla (GSYH) olmak üzere, enflasyon, işsizlik ve endüstriyel üretim açısından değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada COVID-19 pandemisinin Avro Bölgesi ekonomilerine olan negatif etkilerinin 2020 yılının ilk çeyreğinde (Q1) kendini gösterdiği ve aynı yılın ikinci çeyreğinde (Q2) bu etkilerin maksimum seviyeye ulaştığı görülmüştür. Avro Bölgesi ekonomilerinde durgunluktan çıkarak toparlanma eğilimi ve pozitif eğilimlerin ortaya çıkışının ise üçüncü çeyrekte (Q3) sağlandığı gözlemlenmiştir. Bu dönemdeki ekonomik gelişmeler, pandemi sürecinin başlangıcında ülkelerin kısıtlama tedbirlerini sıkılaştırması ve daha sonra normalleşme adımlarına geçilmesinin etkisinde ortaya çıkmıştır. Pandeminin önlenmesine dönük kısıtlamalar turizm, sanayi ve diğer sektörlerde daralmalara ve bu sektörlerde istihdam edilen işgücünün işsiz kalmasına yol açmış, normalleşme adımlarıyla birlikte adı geçen sektörler toparlanırken işsizlik oranlarında olumlu gelişmeler meydana gelmiştir.Alternate abstract:The COVID-19 pandemic triggered a financial crisis having deeper effects than the global financial crisis that took place in 2008. Large-scale monetary and fiscal measures have been taken globally to minimize the negative outcomes of the pandemic regarding domestic demand, foreign trade, and tourism activities. The aim of this study is to determine how the changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Eurozone countries affect the macroeconomic indicators. The findings obtained within the scope of the study were mapped in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment. In this study, the economic effects of the pandemic on the Eurozone countries are evaluated in terms of the gross domestic product (GDP), one of the most important indicators for evaluating the strength of the country's economies and development levels, inflation, unemployment, and industrial production. It was seen that the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Eurozone economies manifested themselves in the first quarter of 2020 (Q1) and these effects reached their maximum level in the second quarter (Q2) of the same year. The recovery period and the positive trends signaling a way out of this crisis are observed to star","PeriodicalId":194263,"journal":{"name":"Business and Economics Research Journal","volume":"474 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115732179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Fourier KPSS stationarity test based on the KPSS test in revealing the stationarity levels of the variables is applied. The cointegration relationship between variables is revealed through the Fourier cointegration which allows structural change in the cointegration relationship and Shin cointegration test. The coefficient of the model established in the study is estimated by the Dynamic Ordinary Least Squares method. The results indicate that there is a long-run relationship between domestic savings and investments when structural change is allowed. It is revealed that domestic savings are insufficient to meet investments while it is determined that the saving coefficient considered as an independent variable in the study is close to zero and the capital mobility is high. As a result, it has been determined that the Feldstein-Horioka hypothesis is not valid for Turkey. Since Turkey is faced with a lack of savings in meeting domestic investments, the development of policies that encourage the entry of foreign capital into the country will allow more investments to be made in the country and contribute to its faster growth.","PeriodicalId":194263,"journal":{"name":"Business and Economics Research Journal","volume":"396 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122083885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Food inflation can be considered among the determining factors of inflation. In this context, the study aims to examine the effect of oil prices and exchange rates on food prices. In the study, NARDL (Non-Linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag) method was applied to predict that oil prices and exchange rates may have an asymmetric effect on food prices. Monthly data from January 2010 to December 2019 were used in the study. The main results achieved were realized within the framework of expectations. The results show that oil prices and exchange rates are in an asymmetrical relationship with food prices in the long run. In the short term, an asymmetrical relationship was not detected. Also, when the long-term coefficients are analyzed, it is seen that positive changes in oil prices and exchange rates are statistically significant. Positive changes in oil price and exchange rate affect the dependent variable in the same direction. If oil prices increase by 1 U.S. Dollar, the food price index increases by 0.30 units, and when the U.S. Dollar rate increases by 1 TL (Turkish Lira), the food price index increases by 16.6 units. As a policy recommendation within the framework of these results, precautions should be taken to reduce the pass-through of positive shocks in oil prices and exchange rates to food prices.","PeriodicalId":194263,"journal":{"name":"Business and Economics Research Journal","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123150359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
