Data were obtained from stomach content analyses of 205 individuals collected with a Bongo net during spring 2001. Larvae were discriminated into preflexion (PF), flexion (F) and post-flexion (PsF) stages. Feeding was described using complementary metrics like Feeding incidence (FI), the Relative Importance of different prey types consumed (IRI), the Degree of prey digestion (E) and Diet overlap (D), which were estimated and compared between stages. Also, larval morphometric relationships (body length, BL vs mouth width, MW) and between MW and maximum prey width (Wmax) were established for the range of observed larval sizes. The overall FI was 46.3% and increased with the development stage: 40.4% PF, 63.3% F, 78.6% PsF. Feeding occurred mainly during sunlit hours but no clear daily cycle could be established. Copepods and in particular Acartia tonsa were well represented among ingested preys, followed by invertebrate eggs and nauplii. Prey diversity and overlap between stages tended to decrease as development progressed. B. aurea exhibited isometric growth of MW in relation to BL. Average Wmax was 222.5 µm ± 100.9 SD, and increased non-linearly with both BL and MW. Gape size alone did not seem to be the limiting factor for prey choice (size), and we hypothesize that factors involved in the feeding mechanism other than mouth gape and linked with capture performance substantially influence the feeding ecology of this species in the RPE. Considered a prized fish, it is commonly processed on board, retaining commercial cuts of the tail called colas . Thus it is diffcult to recognize the original length of the specimens and, consequently, to assess the dynamics of sources and the impacts of catches. Individual length and weight data were used to generate body predictive models correlated to the monkfish cola . The parameters of growth, mortality and exploitation rate were also estimated from the size structure of Lophius gastrophysus captured by the industrial bottom trawling fleet in Southeast Brazil between May 2013 and April 2015, assessing monkfish stock based on indirect estimates of life history information. All predictive models of body size showed coeffcients of determination above 0.9 (P 0.001), indicating good data addustments. The growth parameters were determined by the minimum residual variance methodology, being: L ∞ = 92.4 cm and k = 0.158/year. The size structure tended to increase with depth in the spring. Individuals under the age of sexual maturity contributed significantly to catches. The length of first sexual maturation was estimated at 48.6 cm and the recruitment age was between 6 and 7 years. The coeffcients of total, natural, fishing and exploitation rates were estimated at: Z = 0.676; M = 0.241; F = 0.436 and E = 0.644. The fishing mortality rate was higher than the reference value (E > 0.50) indicating a state of overexploitation of the southeast most part of stock. A review of the current Brazilian legislation established for the species on the southeast coast is recommended. We hypothesized about the influence of rainfall intensity and patterns as the main abiotic factor for sea turtle nesting. On average, leatherbacks preferred nesting during the drier season of each year (March, April, and May), while hawksbills nested during the rainy season (June to September). For both species, we found few significant correlations between the number of nests or clutch size (number of eggs per nest) and weekly averages of seasonal precipitation rates in the region. Average hawksbill clutch sizes were not correlated with average precipitation rates but were positively correlated with the number of rainy days per week (r=0.66, P≤0.05). Average hawksbill clutch sizes decreased each year on average (-3.3 eggs/year, r=-0.88, P≤0.001), which coincided with a negative long-term trend in the number of rainy days (-0.11 rainy days/week, r=-0.69, P≤0.05). During the study period, nesting activities for both leatherback and hawksbills started progressively later (0.9 and 0.6 weeks/year, respectively p≤0.05) and were shorter (-0.9 and -0.8 weeks /year, P≤0.1 and P≤0.05, respectively).
