Psychiatry needs to make smoking cessation a priority and help their patients quit smoking and remain quit. In this chapter, I discuss the assessment of smoking and treatment tools for successful smoking cessation for patients with serious mental disorders. Emphasis is placed on the use of pharmacotherapy, particularly varenicline, and opt-out care, with treatment being the default option in a chronic disease model. E-cigarettes may be a harm reduction option for patients seriously addicted to cigarettes.","PeriodicalId":193490,"journal":{"name":"Psychotic Disorders","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122638430","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
