DG integration, simulated in OpenDSS, includes scenarios with different locations, penetration and spread levels. Single-phase High Impedance Faults (HIF) are used for testing the scheme response. Reactions are presented in the protection devices, such as Trips ahead and Unexecuted trips, due to the Loss of Coordination (LOC) and of the device sensibility. As the priority is the customers safety, it is appointed that Unexecuted trip is the least desired reaction. Scenarios with highest penetration level show the most inadequate behavior, although scenarios with few Distribution Energy Resources (DERs) located close to the main line have the best performance. In addition, it is concluded that nodes with reclosers are not a desired location to position a DER, similarly to the network external nodes.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130196066","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A multi-objective optimization approach is used for modeling the compromise between fuel costs and the greenhouse gas emissions by the thermal plants. The grid topology is also considered by proposing a convex reformulation of the power balance equations through Taylor’s series expansion method. To eliminate the error introduced by this linear approximation a sequential quadratic programming approach is applied by solving the multi-objective problem by a single-objective equivalent via weighting factor approach. A standard 6-node HVDC system is used to validate the proposed convex formulation. All simulations are performed in MATLAB with the quadprog optimization package.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121116985","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These sudden disconnections have been related with a fault ride through control in voltage and frequency excursions following PRC-024 standard. The NERC Inverter-Based Resource Performance Task Force has expressed the necessity for a full ride-through standard with clear requirements as to how the resource can behave in terms on control and protection aspects. In consequence, this article addresses the problem to define the control and protection that can be taken under frequency and voltage excursions to avoid disconnections. For this purpose, this article proposes a new magnitude and frequency computation with computations delays under 16 ms and the use of new detection techniques to add new control and protection functions to the inverter based renewable resources.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125063308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For this purpose, this paper proposes an adaptive supplementary controller based on a reference model for the improvement of damping of weak electromechanical modes. Additionally, the supplementary controller uses fuzzy logic as an adjustment mechanism for tuning the proportional gain in the time. The methodology is applied into a test system with a total installed wind generation of 900 MW and an external HVDC connection with 600MW. The performance of the proposed control is compared to classic control with Power Oscillation Damping.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130126110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Monte-Carlo simulations were performed to generate harmonic profiles in order to calculate the accelerated aging factor that along with the transformer health index determine the behavior of the transformer’s failure rate. The results show that harmonic distortion does not have a significant influence on the transformer life reduction, and that degradation of solid and liquid insulation is one of the cause of increase in the failure rate in long-term as they have a high relative weight in the health index.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"232 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132317334","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed controller guarantees asymptotically stability in closed–loop for the boost DC–DC converter using Lyapunov theory. In addition, the proposed controller is robust to parametric uncertainties and unmodeled dynamics since it does not depend on the system parameters. The current control mode is selected for the PV system since it is modeled as a current source, where its current is computed as a function of solar irradiance and the cells temperature. The current reference is calculated to a perturbing and observe MPPT algorithm with a current-mode controlled to extract the maximum power available in this solar source. The PI-PBC applied to the boost DC–DC converter is compared with a classical PI approach for validating its effectiveness and the robustness. Simulation results are performed in MATLAB/Simulink with a switching frequency of 5 kHz.","PeriodicalId":192905,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE Workshop on Power Electronics and Power Quality Applications (PEPQA)","volume":"22 9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129198522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
