She informed Duna that Ottathe Money Managers’ pension client had phoned to say it was no longer interested in pursuing additional real estate acquisitions; instead, it now considered itself a net seller of real estate based on the portfolio rebalancing recommendations recently approved by the plan’s investment committee. A recent decline in the value of the plan’s stock holdings had significantly reduced the aggregate value of the plan’s assets. Real estate, which had been performing well and increasing in value, was now over-allocated.","PeriodicalId":19286,"journal":{"name":"Nursing New Zealand","volume":"366 1","pages":"21-3"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77202087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The underlying causes of IBD, which encom- passes Crohn's disease and ulcerative coLitis, are unknown but are thought to be a com- bination of genetics, environmental factors, abnormal immune re- sponses and disruption to the microbiota in the gut. IBD can be a devas- tating disease, affect- ing quality of Life and increasing risks for bowel cancer. Effec- tive management has been an elusive goal, but with better under- standing of the inflam- matory and immune pathways involved in IBD, more successful therapies are entering clinical practice. To deliver quality care and help people with IBD manage this dis- ease, nurses must be familiar with the cur- rent understanding of its causes.","PeriodicalId":19286,"journal":{"name":"Nursing New Zealand","volume":"21 1","pages":"20-24"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82134155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pain scientists still aren’t sure why chronic pain develops, but they do know that the longer pain stimuli act on the central nervous system (CNS), the more likely chronic pain is to develop. Early recognition and treatment of a patient’s acute pain helps prevent sensitization of the CNS, which can lead to chronic pain. But if your patient is already experiencing chronic pain, focus your assessment and treatment on possible underlying causes of pain and symptom management. Research indicates that chronic pain is best treated using a multidisciplinary approach. To understand why and how certain drugs work for chronic pain, let’s look at central sensitization, the mechanism by which acute pain turns chronic.","PeriodicalId":19286,"journal":{"name":"Nursing New Zealand","volume":"15 1","pages":"20-4"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75441015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
