The subsequent discovery and exploration of heavy-fermion magnetism, cuprates, Kondo insulators, Ce- and Pu-115 superconductors and, more broadly, quantum states of narrow-band systems provided challenges for the next 30 years. Progress was not made in a vacuum but benefitted from significant advances in the Americas, Asia and Europe as well as from essential collaborations, visitors and Los Alamos students and postdocs, many subsequently setting their own course in SCES. As often the case, serendipity played a role in shaping this history.","PeriodicalId":19186,"journal":{"name":"New Physics: Sae Mulli","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139166767","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

I will also address the antagonistic behavior of conventional (BCS) superconductivity and magnetism. The main focus of this paper is on the discovery of non-BCS-type superconductivity in the Kondo-lattice system CeCu$_2$Si$_2$, a prototypical heavy-fermion metal. Here, the superconducting state is created by a periodic lattice of 100% of magnetic Ce^3+ ions. Meanwhile, more than fifty lanthanide-, actinide-, and transition-metal-based intermetallic compounds are known to belong to the class of heavy-fermion superconductors. Finally, I will give my personal view of the current knowledge of this kind of unconventional superconductivity.","PeriodicalId":19186,"journal":{"name":"New Physics: Sae Mulli","volume":"270 ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139174864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
