At the same time, Quality of user Experience (QoE) assessment methods have notably evolved in the last years, especially for VoIP services. The question that rises is, are these models ready to be used for VoLTE? In this paper, we contribute to answer this question by: (i) providing a high level exploration of current objective non-intrusive models for VoIP QoE evaluation, (ii) highlighting the review of works aiming to improve the standardized E-model (ITU-T Rec. G.107 (06/2015)) and the examination of non-standardized solutions proposed by the research community, and (iii) bringing forth the challenges identified for the completion of a successful QoE evaluation approach according to modern VoIP services such as VoLTE.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. The existing wireless infrastructures can already be used for communicating with different mobile entities at various monetary costs. A packet scheduler, included in a shim layer between the network layer and the medium access (MAC) layer, which is able to schedule packets between uncoordinated Radio Access Technologies ( RATs ) without modification of the wireless standards, has been devised and its performance evaluated. In this paper, we focus on the influence of mobility type in heterogeneous wireless networks. Three cases are considered based on the mobility in the city: walking, cycling, and driving. Realistic simulations are performed by generating mobility traces of Oxford from Google Maps and overlaying the real locations of existing WiFi Access Points.  Results demonstrate that the shim layer approach can accommodate different user profiles and can be a useful abstraction to support Intelligent Transport Systems where there is no coordination between different wireless operators.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Now-a-days, commercial robotics solutions are focusing more on personal services. Personal services robots are designed with necessary mobility and functional capabilities so that they can operate in a wide range of environments and can provide variety of services including health care, educational, domestic chore, entertainment, and rehabilitation. These personal robots perform various tasks and duties that are often unpredictable in nature. But, there are some technological challenges that need yet to be resolved. Integrating a robotic system with its components is usually a very complex task. Developing a modular robotic system that can perform well in various environments is also challenging. In addition robots should be provided with necessary skills so that they can perform various tasks. Keeping all these challenges in mind we presents a networked robotic system in this paper. The system is controlled by a smart phone. The path followed by the robot can be monitored via an LED panel. In order to control the operation an Android OS mobile application has been developed. Through this application a user can set a path for the robot to follow or can choose a path from a set of already defined paths. We tested our system in a controlled environments and the test results show that the robot can follow a path (either user defined or chosen) with a high accuracy.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Despite that VANET is considered as a subclass of MANET, it has for particularity the high mobility of vehicles producing the frequent changes of network topology that involve changing of road, varying node density and locations of vehicles existing in this road. That‘s why, the most proposed clustering algorithms for MANET are unsuitable for VANET. Various searches have been recently published deal with clustering for VANETs. But most of them are focused on minimizing network overhead value, number of created clusters and had not considered the vehicles interests which defined as any related data used to differentiate vehicle from another (such as traffic congestion, looking for free parking space etc). In this paper, we propose a novel clustering algorithm based on agent technology to solve the problems mentioned above and improve routing in VANET. Experimental part show promising results regarding the adoption of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. To overcome this problem, cognitive radio is an optimistic solution. Spectrum sensing is a prominent task of cognitive radio. Over the past decade, numerous spectrum sensing algorithms have been proposed. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of evolutionary achievements of eigenvalue based spectrum sensing algorithms. The correlation between signal samples due to oversampling, multipath or multiple receivers gets reflected on the eigenvalues of the covariance matrix. It has been observed that different combinations of eigenvalues are used as test statistics and the distribution of eigenvalues and derivation of probability of detection is based on RMT (Random Matrix Theory). The main advantage offered by these algorithms is their robustness to noise uncertainty which severely affect other methods. Furthermore, they do not require accurate synchronization. These detections can be used for different signal detection applications without any prior information of signal or noise. To evaluate the performance of eigenvalue based spectrum sensing techniques under fading channels, we have simulated maximum to minimum eigenvalue based Detection (MME) and maximum eigenvalue based detection (MED) estimation for Rician fading channel. Simulation results shows that MME is much better than MED.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. With this continuous development of mobile communications, the achievement of an efficient IP mobility management protocol has revealed as one of the major challenges in next-generation wireless networks. Mobility management solutions are responsible for maintaining the ongoing communications while the user roams among distinct networks. Mobile IPv6 and Proxy Mobile IPv6 are the most representative solutions standardized by the IETF. Recently, the IPv6 mobility support has been newly integrated into the kernel sources and Linux mobility ready kernels are available from versions 3.8.1. In this article, we conduct an analytic and experimental evaluation of Mobile IPv6 and Proxy Mobile IPv6. We develop an analytic model of the signaling and handover latency. Moreover, we present an experimental study these protocols based on their open source implementations. We provide numerical results based on experiments made in real scenarios under different network conditions.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. However, considering a scenario with various services to be allocated in more than one cloud, it is necessary to find the distribution of services that minimizes the overall operating costs. This paper researches on the resource allocation methodology to be applied in a multi-cloud scenario based on the findings derived from the framework used for the FINESCE project. The purpose of this work is to define a methodology to assist on the hybrid cloud selection and configuration in the Smart Grid for both generic and highly-constrained scenarios in terms of latency and availability. Specifically, the presented method is aimed to determine which is the best cloud to allocate a resource by (1) optimizing the system with the information of the network and (2) minimizing the occurrence of collapsed or underused virtual machines. Also, to assess the performance of this method and any alternative proposals, a general set of metrics has been defined. These metrics have been refined taking into account the expertise of FINESCE partners in order to shape Smart Grid clouds and reduce the complexity of computation. Finally, using the data extracted from the FINESCE testbed, a decision tree is used to come up with the best resource allocation scheme.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. These signalling systems are based on communication architectures that must cope with complex electromagnetical environments. This paper is outlined in the context of developing the necessary tools to allow the quick deployment of these signalling systems by contributing to an easier analysis of their behaviour under the effect of electromagnetical interferences. Specifically, this paper presents the modelling of the Eurobalise-train communication flow in a general purpose simulation tool. It is critical to guarantee this communication link since any lack of communication may lead to a stop of the train and availability problems. In order to model precisely this communication link we used real measurements done in a laboratory equipped with elements defined in the suitable subsets. Through the simulation study carried out, we obtained performance indicators of the physical layer such as the received power, SNR and BER. The modelling presented in this paper is a required step to be able to provide quality of service indicators related to perturbed scenarios.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. Under this new architecture the proliferation of live video streaming applications and the Quality of Experience (QoE) given by the final user are an issue, due to the higher and variable delay, as result of the virtualization methods used in the Clouds. Thus in this paradigm new challenges appear related to keep and estimate a good QoE in terms of a standarized subjective video quality called Mean Opinion Score (MOS). In this paper we analyze different approaches based on Factor Analysis techniques to estimate the subjective MOS both using Full Reference and Non Reference approaches. We compare the performance of the estimated MOS against publicly available video quality algorithms.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw. Protoc. It aims at defining an open infrastructure based on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) used to develop new solutions and applications in all fields of Future Internet related to the energy sector. To accomplish this goal a cloud-based environment is proposed, providing high scalability, fast provisioning, resilience and cost efficiency, while facilitating the deployment of applications and services for utilities. The proposed solution for Smart Energy system encompasses Cloud Computing technologies taking advantage of the service delivery models that it provides (Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)) over different cloud deployment solutions (Private, Public, Hybrid, Community). Therefore, it is necessary to study their implications, particularly with regard to security and data privacy, whether in transit or stored data, of the cloud solution chosen. The present paper aims to gather basic security requirements in deploying a solution based on Cloud Computing highlighting issues in hybrid clouds because this is the deployment model used in Smart Energy use case. It also exposes attacks and vulnerabilities related to Cloud Computing to be considered for implementing a secure environment for FIDEV, the private platform implementation. Moreover, the security requirements for Smart Energy use case are defined. And, finally, the results of a security audit performed over the testbed platform that simulates a distributed storage solution for FINESCE project are presented.","PeriodicalId":190994,"journal":{"name":"Netw.
