This could yield solutions with improved accuracy with respect to other solution methods. The amount of computation involved is only slightly higher than that in the Gaussian elimination.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115394132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new filter is based on the slow-wave effect of the defected ground structure (DGS) to achieve size minimization, while the spurious responses are eliminated by the band-rejection property. These features offer the classical parallel coupled-line bandpass filter simultaneous compactness and wide stopband performance. Using DGS does not require the filter parameters to be recalculated and, this way, the classical design methodology for coupled-line microstrip filters can still be used. The simulations and measurements of a 2.0 GHz prototype bandpass filter are presented. The measured results agree well with the simulation data. Compared with the conventional parallel coupled-line bandpass filters, the second, third and fourth measured spurious responses are suppressed to -45, -43 and -34 dB, respectively. In addition, the size of the prototype filter circuitry can be reduced up to 20%.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122503596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The uniqueness of its extracted effective permittivity and permeability is verified through a comparison of simulation data for lenses of different thicknesses, and simulations of negative refraction for various angles of incidence illustrate that an effective-medium perspective is justified. Experimental results for subdiffraction imaging are corroborated by the theory governing the relationship between loss, resolution, and bandwidth.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"113 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124330343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Implantable retinal prostheses have been shown to be capable of restoring some form of vision to patients affected by these conditions by providing systematic electrical stimulation to the retinal ganglion cells, thus partially replacing the functionality of the diseased photoreceptors cells. In this paper, we determine the areas where retinal ganglion cells are depolarized and hyperpolarized by the artificial electrical stimulation. This is achieved by calculating the activation function from the potential scalar field obtained using the admittance method with three-dimensional models of the retina, implanted electrode, and surrounding tissue.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132145351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We exploit the fact that the sample's location, shape and size can be determined a priori based on the known fixture geometry and integrate this with a soft prior algorithm to essentially recover a single dielectric property within the target zone. This is potentially an important approach for cases where the widely applied coaxial probe approach is not optimal due to poor surface contact and property differences between the surface and tissue interior. For example, the treated surface of a sample of cancellous bone can be quite heterogeneous given the intricate web of trabeculae, fat and marrow. Our technique is able to reconstruct a value for this sample which is indicative of the whole volume.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114919206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unit cells include centered apertures. Centered circular aperture diameter swept for a wide range and different simulations using Ansoft HFSS and Ansoft Designer is accomplished. Ansoft Designer is shown to be unable in properly treating the unit cells which have some metallic parts touching unit cell's boundary. Using a new feature in Ansoft HFSS 11.0, TE - Mode and TM - Mode transmission properties of an array of centered apertures is investigated. With the unit cell having the same transverse dimensions as X-band waveguide, and sweeping aperture diameter a single resonance for TE - Mode and double resonances for TM - Mode is discovered, in the single-mode frequency range of X-band waveguide.","PeriodicalId":190053,"journal":{"name":"2009 13th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics and the Canadian Radio Science Meeting","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125078275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
