However, a condition which arises in practical systems is presented which does nor conform to the white source condition. A periodic symbol sequence at the input can steer the adaptation process to a solution which is not the desired solution. This (mis)behavior does arise when the equalizer is adapted with the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) and the periodic signal is nor constant modulus. The paper explores the conditions which lead to this (mis)behavior.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"238 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122627720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The algorithm is based on decorrelating the input to the decision or threshold device of a decision feedback equalizer to reduce the intersymbol interference at the equalizer's output. To increase the rate of convergence of this blind, adaptive, decision feedback equalizer, a fast Kalman structure was proposed, but not without a dramatic increase in complexity and limited numerical stability. In the present paper, more computationally efficient lattice-based structures are proposed. Using the decorrelation algorithm to control these structures, the authors maintain a high rate of convergence with better numerical stability in finite-precision environments.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"262 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115012917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There has been speculation recently that such devices may be capable of chaotic modes of operation. The first section of this paper examines this possibility. There is also a greater concern that, due to the non-linear nature of these devices, sigma-delta modulation of a chaotic signal may affect the long-term predictability of that signal. This is examined by considering a range of invariant geometric properties of a signal before and after sigma delta modulation, including the Lyapunov exponents and the correlation dimension. It is shown that, although the sigma delta modulator is not in itself a chaotic system, it can affect these geometric properties and therefore the predictability of the signal being measured.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"125 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133344775","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An analysis/synthesis procedure is used, but variation is deliberately introduced in the synthesis step to broaden the set of sounds that are produced. Two methods are described: one that treats the sound as a deterministic signal and one that treats it as a realization of a nonstationary stochastic process. The two methods can be applied separately or used together in a deterministic/stochastic decomposition of the data.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128393961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe a technique for designing linear detectors for arbitrary additive noise channels that takes into account dependence structure, amplitude distribution, and transmitted signals. This technique is based on Wiener's theory of nonlinear systems, and amounts to cross-correlating the optimal detector's output with its input when it is driven by white Gaussian noise. We have not proven this linear detector's optimality; simulations demonstrate that it has some of the properties required of optimal detectors in several cases.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133333726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we derive and illustrate several new algorithms for the reconstruction of the vertices of simply-connected polygons from moments. These results find applications in a variety of apparently disparate areas such as computerized tomography and inverse potential theory, where in the former it is of interest in estimating the shape of an object from a finite number of its projections; while in the latter, the objective is to extract the shape of a gravitating body from measurements of its exterior logarithmic potentials at a finite number of points. The applications of the algorithms, we develop, to tomography hence expose a seemingly deep connection between the fields of tomography and array processing. This connection implies that a host of numerical algorithms such as MUSIC, Min-norm, and Prony are now available for application to tomographic reconstruction problems.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126284972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By splitting the frequency spectrum of the past excitation signal, a different pitch lag and gain factor can be attached to each frequency band. This strategy improves the quality of the synthetic speech, providing much more natural sounding voice. The filter bank must be designed to abide by some requirements related to low and nearly-constant group delay and band aliasing, rather than to accomplish perfect reconstruction of the output signal. In the design, which employs two-band splitting, the authors have relaxed the usual condition of linear-phase in favor of achieving less aliasing between bands.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":189083,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of IEEE 6th Digital Signal Processing Workshop","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1994-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121504121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
