It is possible to construct complex mechanical structures using those materials. Mechanical structures include a drive, structural frame, bearings, and other components. Smart materials make it possible to integrate those functionalities to be contained within one element. An additional advantage is offered by the fact that, depending on the application design, they can operate as sensors or actuators. The matrix of IPMC is Nafion polymer membrane, plated on both sides with a 10-20 μm platinum and gold layer. The membrane contains anions, which are not capable of moving, whereas cations can freely travel within the membrane. When voltage is applied to IPMC electrodes, an electric field E is created, which makes mobile cations, together with water molecules, migrate within the membrane towards the negative electrode. As a result, pressure increases in the negative electrode area, whereas it decreases in the positive electrode area, which causes the polymer to bend. IPMC provides an interesting option for the system elements, as it makes it possible to generate low forces, of the order of 10 to 40 times of its weight (given in grams). The first part of the paper provides a description of the control measurement system. An enhanced algorithm using H∞ approach is provided to verify stability of the adaptive observer for fault diagnosis and to define its parameter design condition, giving a modified adaptive fault estimation algorithm with improved performance of fault estimation. This technology is less expensive than conventional mining. It is appropriate to construct a physical model of the gasifier in the geometrical similarity for research and good analysis of UCG process under laboratory conditions. The heat losses in the process realized by the gasifier must correspond to heat losses in real seam. The paper presents a comparison study of the heat losses on the gasifier and in the real seam. The results of measurements involve errors which are transmitted to errors of unknown values determined by means of mass and energy balance equations. Experiences from operation of the thermal systems show that assumed for data reconciliation calculations value of measurement uncertainty has significant influence on validation of the results of measurements and calculated values of indicators characterizing the operating conditions. The paper presents an analysis of the influence of the assumed measurement uncertainty on the results of the data reconciliation calculations and value of the specific consumption of chemical energy of fuels in the selected steam combined heat and power unit. Multivariate calculations for different values of assumed uncertainty of measurements and simulated limiting errors of measurements error were carried out. Also a nonlinear state-feedback control law is designed for AMB in zero-bias mode due to voltage saturation. The nonlinear reduced-order observer is designed, to estimate the flux, and incorporated in equivalence implementation of the nonlinear state-feedback controller. The main design tools such as sliding mode control, Control Lyapunov Function (CLF) and passivity are used in this framework. The pipeline and parallel pipeline architecture play an important role in modelling the algorithm for the FPGA based implementation. In order to design the pipeline-parallel model of the controller two different methods were used: high level synthesis tool respectively System Generator. Some of the inference systems sub-modules were implemented in VHDL.
