In this paper, we present recent standardization activities and implementations of security services in various cooperative driving applications (Release 1 use cases and next stages). We discuss the validation of C-ITS embedded systems security standards and the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) implementation plans. We present already standardized messages as well as a new proposal for standardization. Among the available methods, a surely promising approach is the wavelet based one. It allows to subdivide the wide-band spectrum under analysis in a proper number of sub-bands, based on Power Spectral Density (PSD) irregularities, remarked by the extrema of the Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) first derivative. Generally, such kind of methods works well as long as good Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) can be experienced over the span of interest. We believe that the current interoperability and communications evolution will drive the adoption of personal clouds. In order to provide personal cloud interoperability, we propose an end to end authentication mechanism based on JSON Web Tokens (JWT) and the blockchain. JWTs are a standardized container format to encode personal cloud and client related information in a secure way using “claims”. This paper proposes a solution able to bundle the own DSL resources with available resources of neighbouring DSLs. The solution is based on links between the DSL routers (e.g. using Wi-Fi technology) which are used by the bundling algorithm to distribute data packets over the available DSLs. The proposed solution has been implemented in a testbed in order to investigate possible bundling gains under realistic conditions. This paper presents details about the solution itself as well as the implementation and the testbed. Intensive performance measurements based on a testbed are discussed. Results show that high bundling gains can be achieved. Potential exists for the TV white-space (TVWS) wireless technology to bridge this digital divide, though efficient channel access mechanisms suited to multi-hop networks that operate in sub-gigahertz bands are yet to be developed. Existing centralized monitoring stations, however, are unable to properly estimate human exposure due to the low resolution spatiotemporal data. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) uses real-time capable instrumentation could not only provide fine-grained readings of multiple environmental factors, but also create real-time mapping of the contaminants. In this paper we present a WSN system which is capable of sensing multiple environmental factors, collecting data from multiple dispersed sensor nodes and displaying the aggregated data in real-time. Each individual sensor node is capable of probing multiple factors, including temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, PM2.5, UV radiation, and geographical location. Sensor data are transmitted to a server, which then be stored into a database through Wi-Fi networks. Therefore, decentralized congestion control (DCC) is needed that keeps the channel load under a pre-defined threshold. In the European system for vehicular communication, a DCC-gatekeeper has been inserted into the protocol stack that reduces the data traffic generated or forwarded by the vehicle. This DCC-gatekeeper affects the functionality of the contention-based forwarding (CBF) and degrades its performance. In this paper we evaluate the performance of CBF under congestion-free and saturated channel conditions for several protocol variants: DCF, EDCA and DCC-gatekeeper. The results show that the standard DCC-gatekeeper hampers the functionality of CBF even for small node densities. Specifically, we focus on a scenario in which a mobile video streaming service is provided to users. We then develop a mobile streaming traffic micro-to-macro offloading scheme based on a cross layer approach, in which we exploit the knowledge of the video structure at a proxy side. Our results, obtained over a detailed case study, show that the proposed approach is able to enable high quality video streaming services that are otherwise not feasible. Moreover, even a moderate portion of the macro bandwidth (typically ranging between 15% and 25% of the total bandwidth) is already able to serve users that have been offloaded from the small cell. Connected vehicles, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) together with IoT technologies have the potential of unleashing efficient and more sustainable transportation system which is fast becoming an important societal challenge. This paper formulates several main research and engineering challenges for integrating connected vehicles into IoT ecosystems. The challenges include - (i) a suitable alternative of cloud platform to support real time connected vehicular scenarios, (ii) uniform description and data collection mechanisms from vehicular sensors, (iii) integrating smart devices into transport systems, (iv) uniform mechanism for data fusion and analytics and (v) integrating all heterogeneous elements into a standard IoT architecture for connected vehicles. To mitigate these challenges, we propose a novel IoT framework. The solutions, operational phases of the framework, software elements & their implementations and advantages are described in details. The building blocks of the framework are integrated into an oneM2M standard architecture. This paper presents a smart home scenario, together with its requirements for a secure and user friendly mutual authentication protocol. Protocols developed for the internet are often not applicable to the Internet of Things due to hardware limitations and physical inaccessibility of devices. To tackle the challenge of a usable and secure device authentication in the area of the IoT, a QR code based mutual authentication protocol is proposed. The protocol supports two operation modes to handle different hardware configurations with respect to cameras and displays. Both operation modes are secure against attacks within the proposed attacker model.
