Sleep scheduling techniques put nodes into sleep, alleviating this problem. However, this increases the response time of the network. For this reason, these techniques must consider the network requirements. Many advanced WSN implementations manage heterogeneous data with different, and maybe opposite, requirements. In this case, traditional sleep scheduling strategies are not efficient. To solve this, we design a sleep scheduling strategy for heterogeneous traffic based on the division of the network in multiple trees. Each tree manages a specific traffic flow, considering its specific requirements. This strategy is applied to a Wireless Sensor Surveillance Network (WSSN) that includes ambient conditions monitoring, event detection and real-time positioning. Traditionally, the output bottleneck is alleviated by reducing the number of bits in output responses using XOR networks, or computing signatures from the responses of multiple tests. However, these many-to-one computations reduce test time at the cost of higher detection failure rates, and lower test granularity. In this paper, we propose an output compression approach that uses compressive sensing to exploit the redundancy of correlated outputs from closely related tests, and of correlated faulty responses across many circuits. Compressive sensing's simple encoding method makes our approach attractive because it can be implemented on-chip using only a small number of accumulators. Using this analytical framework, we consider the issue of partitioning the nodes and available frequencies into groups so as to maximize the system throughput. Assigning the nodes and frequencies into “groups” is important because the size of the group impacts the tradeoff between the benefits of frequency diversity and the cost of collision on the shared medium imposed by the nodes in a group. Several types of M&S tools are required to model different aspects of military systems, yet these tools often have different computational fidelities in terms of time and scale. Current approaches using direct information transfer between M&S tools, such as High Level Architecture (HLA) and MATREX, do not provide the mechanisms for disparate tools to make direct use of each other's information [1], [2]. Thus, many military SoS analyses assume perfect communications, an unrealistic assumption that leaves a gap for conducting more comprehensive analyses for large-scale, net-centric SoS problems. This research addresses this gap by developing general purpose methodologies to bridge the gap between diverse M&S tools resulting in a capability that enables military decision makers to evaluate comms system performance effects at a SoS level [3].
