The procedure consists in the attempt of a visual, hearing impaired person as well as an unimpaired one, initially trained, to identify three vibrotactile standard stimuli ( target frequency from 17.8, 31.6 and 56.2 Hz) having as starting point the sending of an initial stimulus (initial frequency ). The results were obtained through the analyses between the rightness mean while identifying the target frequency, among 1) visually and hearing impaired people as well as unimpaired ones: 2) visually and hearing impaired men and women and unimpaired ones: 3) visually and hearing impaired children, teenagers and adults as well as unimpaired ones; and 4) people with congenital and acquired blindness or deafness. A comparative analysis was done between the tactile sensitivity of the forefinger and the thumb, middle, ring and little fingers, as well as a comparison between the sensitivities in the target frequencies in the three groups (blind, deaf and unimpaired people). The results assessment obtained in the experiment was based on the t-student statistical method for paired and independent samples and ANOVA with a classification criterion.","PeriodicalId":186841,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114906153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

But with increased of age mental abilities are reduced and there is a necessity of caregiver which may interfere with their privacy. In this research work, we target towards the development of a wireless sensors based home monitoring system especially for elder people. The current system is based on sensors which detect use of electrical appliances whether they are connected to electrical mains. But it has been realized to there is a requirement of a few more sensors to making a smart home monitoring system. This paper has reported the development of a bed-sensor which forms one sensor of the home monitoring system.","PeriodicalId":186841,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123841661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Smart Rollator utilizes an ambulatory assistive device, namely a rollator, to provide a non-obtrusive monitoring system. With the aging population, the need for technologies that support independent living, and assist in maintaining the health and well-being of older adults is growing. The Smart Rollator prototype consists of a number of subsystems including: distance/speed monitoring, tri-axial acceleration monitoring, force monitoring, seat usage monitoring, and physiological monitoring. Data are transmitted wirelessly through a local data terminal to a remote server. Using remote data terminals various people can view and perform analyses on these data (e.g. rollator user, family members, health care professionals). The Smart Rollator is intended to improve the utility of conventional rollators by enabling remote monitoring capabilities that will support on-going care and rehabilitation, as well as potentially impact rollator design and prescription.","PeriodicalId":186841,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126035665","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The heavy computation burden compared with the previous procedure based on spatial filters suggests to use the Wener's deconvolution to process the rejected images, only, and not all the acquired images from the Image Flow Cytometer. According to this consideration and to speed up the complete pre-processing procedure, the implementation of the correction procedure is based on a computing distributed service implemented by using theLabVIEWShared Variables (SV). Experimental tests confirm the fitness of the correction method and the advantages of the computing distributed service as regarding both the speed up and the uniformity of the analysis time.","PeriodicalId":186841,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116677702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the IEC 60601-2-30, the EN 1060 and the ANSI/AAMISP-10 are described. A critical overview of the existing standards and protocols dealing with the calibration of these devices is provided focusing on the device specifications and the test methods, including the most used clinical protocols like the British Hypertension Society one. The analysis of the reported references put in evidence the need for a clear and unique set of definitions and objective methods for calibrating blood pressure measuring devices. The IEEE PI 721 project for a new standard on Objective Measurement of Systemic Arterial Blood Pressure in Humans started recently with such purposes.","PeriodicalId":186841,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE International Workshop on Medical Measurements and Applications","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117010562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
