In this paper we focus both on cloud federation and energy efficiency to enforce a dynamic energy management strategy for the whole ecosystem, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. More specifically, starting from our two-step approach, we evaluate a cloud federation ecosystem by moving computational resources among federated cloud DCs in order to maintain, for a forecast period, the related workload at the best Green Destination (GD) powered by renewable energy sources. To this end we present and discuss two simulated scenarios, and their experimental results, thus to proving the goodness of our approach. Moreover, an energy comparison between the transfer and the maintenance phases for the computational workload is made.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116524202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, opportunistic routing schemes implicitly allow each individual flow to eagerly consume network resources without considering other concurrent flows. The selfish manner of an opportunistic flow leads to a poor performance in multi-flow scenarios. In this paper, we design a QoS-aware and application service priority level-dependent queuing mechanism to efficiently support multi-flow scenarios. We base our protocol on a well-known opportunistic routing protocol (MORE) which employs network coding as well. Our scheme significantly increases the overall throughput seen by each individual flow while considering their priorities.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131057757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each sensor performs several tasks, such as computing, sensing and communicating. A node equipped with multiple sensors is able to participate in many sensing tasks to improve measurement accuracy. However, the contribution a new node can make to the corresponding sensing accuracy depends on the number of existing nodes while the energy cost will increase in a consistent way. Therefore, there is a tradeoff between the task accuracy and the energy cost. In this paper, we consider the dynamic fading fact of contribution of redundant sensor nodes and bring forward a Contribution Aware Task Allocation method to maximize the total accuracy efficiency of sensor network. The method is derived from max-weight resource allocation algorithm (i.e., KM algorithm) and can guarantee the optimal of the solution. We compare our method with two other greedy and optimizing method. The experimental result shows our method outperform the competitors and are more efficiency.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132478645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recently released 802.11aa amendment is likewise prone to such attacks because the mechanisms which it provides can be selfishly configured by insiders to raise their QoS. In this paper, we present the first security analysis of 802.11aa by investigating selfish insider attacks against the intra-AC prioritization feature. Our analysis shows that 802.11aa is susceptible to already existing attacks as well as attacks previously not considered. Furthermore, our research shows the extent to which an attacker can benefit from these types of selfish behaviors. Therefore, we can identify which mechanisms should be augmented with countermeasures to protect 802.11aa networks from selfish attackers.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133121576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, computing evolutionary links on data sets containing only few thousands of taxa easily becomes a daunting task. Moreover, recent advances in next-generation sequencing technologies are turning this problem even much harder, either in terms of complexity or scale. Therefore, phylogenetic inference requires new algorithms and methods to handle the unprecedented growth of biological data. In this paper, we identify several types of parallelism that are available while refining a supertree. We also present four improvements that we made to SuperFine - a state-of-the-art supertree (meta)method -, which add support: i) to use FastTree as the inference tool; ii) to use a parallel version of FastTree, or RAxML, as the inference tool; iii) to exploit intra-polytomy parallelism within the so-called polytomy refinement phase; and iv) to exploit, at the same time, inter-polytomy and intra-polytomy parallelism within the polytomy refinement phase. Together, these improvements allow an efficient and transparent exploitation of hybrid-polytomy parallelism. Additionally, we pinpoint how future contributions should enhance the performance of such applications. Our studies show groundbreaking results in terms of the achieved speedups, specially when using biological data sets. Moreover, we show that the new parallel strategy - which exploits the hybrid-polytomy parallelism within the polytomy refinement phase - exhibits good scalability, even in the presence of asymmetric sets of tasks. Furthermore, the achieved results show that the radical improvement in performance does not impair tree accuracy, which is a key issue in phylogenetic inferences.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130044049","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, proposed solutions require a high degree of architectural penetration. The present study targets the orchestration of network elements that do not wish to yield much of their internal operations to an external controller. Backpressure routing principles are used for deriving flow routing rules that optimally stabilize a network, while maximizing its throughput. The elements can then accept in full, partially or reject the proposed routing rule-set. The proposed scheme requires minimal, relatively infrequent interaction with a controller, limiting its imposed workload, promoting scalability. The proposed scheme exhibits attracting network performance gains, as demonstrated by extensive simulations and proven via mathematical analysis.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114067351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scope of CS is not limited only to sparse signal but it is also applicable to compressible signals, such as multimedia signals including audio signals. Representing the random samples from CS process using finite-precision is a crucial problem in communication systems. In this paper, we focus on 1-bit quantized CS. We propose to take into account the perceptual CS model for audio compression, where the perceptual properties are taken into account. We propose two models, the first applies perceptual effect at the transmitter side. In the other model, a modified Binary Iterative Hard Thresholding (BIHT) is proposed to improve the performance of 1-bit compressed sensing by taking the perceptual properties of the received audio signal into account. The Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is used to compare the perceptual quality of the received signal for the proposed 1-bit perceptual CS algorithms. Simulation results show that a better performance is achieved using the proposed algorithms.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133243118","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new networking paradigm, Software Defined Networking (SDN), in combination with the recent communication protocol, OpenFlow, brings a new perspective to the operator and cloud provider's core networks by providing new autonomous tools. This paper proposes and evaluates a new SDN control mechanism that allows the definition of dedicated connectivity service within an operator network, making it possible to easily provide and support cloud services to the end user. It takes advantage of the combination of SDN and Cloud Computing, and further benefits the automation of both technologies, which empowers the operator to provide faster services to its users, such as virtual machine instantiation with automatic network creation. The evaluation of the proposed approach shows that the most time consuming phase is the installation of the OpenFlow rules in the network: in a network of 128 nodes, it takes around 250msec to both install and remove connections.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130535403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The exponentially growing size of graphs requires the definition of appropriated computational models and algorithms for their processing on high throughput distributed architectures. In this paper we present cracker, an efficient iterative algorithm to detect connected components in large graphs. The strategy of cracker is to iteratively grow a spanning tree for each connected component of the graph. Nodes added to such trees are discarded from the computation in the subsequent iterations. We provide an extensive experimental evaluation considering a wide variety of synthetic and real-world graphs. The experimental evaluation shows that cracker consistently outperforms state-of-the-art approaches both in terms of total computation time and volume of messages exchanged.","PeriodicalId":186097,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communication (ISCC)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132437471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
