This definition is based on the Leibnizian conception of Space and Time, which contrasts with the common conception: the Newtonian conception of Space and Time. In the latter conception, information flow does not affect the spatio-temporal structure of persons, while in the former conception the structure may be changed profoundly and slowly via the flow of information, slow information. Consequently this new aspect of information is applied to environmental design problems via Alexander's pattern language. In addition, we discuss its application to caring communication based on nursing theory and Naive psychology.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. In the clinical practice, elasticity is used for physical examination in several ways, such as palpation or percussion. Differences in elasticity can help facilitate the diagnosis of tumors and their extent. Elasticity is an essential property in the diagnosis of liver cirrhosis, or soft degeneration in tissue necrosis. In addition, information of tissue elasticity is utilized in virtual reality systems such as telepalpation and computer assisted surgery. It was difficult to obtain such properties in vivo by using conventional measurement methods. To overcome this problem, magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) has been developed that provides noninvasive in vivo measurements of elasticity for human tissue. We summarize this MRE method in this paper. When an object is oscillated from the surface in a known frequency, acoustic strain waves propagate into the material and one can calculate the physical constants of a material elasticity by the wave velocity. In MRE measurements, a cyclic micromotion caused by the acoustic strain waves is obtained as an MR image that is synchronized to the oscillation. By measuring the local wavelength of the strain waves, we can obtain the elasticity constants. Several examples of MRE image including in vivo measurements are provided as well as several methods to estimate the local wavelength from MRE images are described.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. There are two unavoidable difficult issues in order to realize this junction; one is ill-posedness of the vision and motor problem, and the other is delay time which occurs in the signal transmission of the nervous system. We examined how cognitive and motor functions are realized under forward-inverse transformation and predictive processing theoretically and experimentally.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. Sensory receptors have been assumed to be sensors that send information of outer world to the brain. However, cooling the skin evokes cold sensation, but not temperature. Hence, information may not be sent to the brain. Instead, we have proposed that receptors are comparators, which evoke impulses as drive signals when stimulus is adequate. When these impulses activate information stored in the brain, sensation of outer world would appear. Immunosensing represents the ability of the central nervous system (CNS) to respond to microbial infection occurring outside the CNS in spite of the presence of blood-brain barrier. Recent studies revealed cellular and molecular cascade of immunosensory system, in which immune cells, endothelial cells, and neurons are functionally connected by 2 types of soluble mediators, i.e, cytokines and prostaglandin E/sub 2/.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. It can model a variety of real world applications in location, allocation, machine assignment, and so forth. We review recent metaheuristic algorithms we developed for this problem. The algorithms use the ejection chain approach, which is embedded in a neighborhood construction to create more complex and powerful moves. We also incorporate an automatic mechanism for adjusting search parameters, to maintain a balance between visits to the feasible and infeasible regions. Computational comparisons on benchmark instances show that the methods are very effective compared to other existing metaheuristic algorithms.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. Since one of the most important contents is human activity, such as meetings, lectures and events in the society, it becomes important to record it without disturbing the activity. The archiving system for recording such activity have common concept, and we name it as \"environmental media\". Under this concept, we have developed an automatic lecture archiving system and used it in several courses in our university. In this paper, the media processing part of the automatic lecture archiving system is mainly discussed.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004. Our speech recognition system Julius has been improved to deal with these kinds of spontaneous speech. Transcriptions are automatically edited for improving readability, and then key sentences are indexed for each segment based on statistically derived discourse markers and topic words. For panel discussions consisting of multiple speakers, unsupervised speaker indexing is applied beforehand to segment audio into speaker turns. Thus, we realize efficient browsing of these audio archives.","PeriodicalId":185973,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Informatics Research for Development of Knowledge Society Infrastructure, 2004.
