Recently, Xcast6 -- a complementary protocol of IP Multicast has been proposed. However, the key limitation of Xcast6 is that it only supports small multicast sessions. To overcome this, we propose Xcast6 Treemap islands (X6Ti) -- a hybrid model of Overlay Multicast and Xcast6. In summary, X6Ti has many advantages: support large multicast groups, simple and easy to deploy on the Internet, no router configuration, no restriction on the number of groups, no multicast routing protocol and no group management protocol. Based on simulation, we compare X6Ti with IP Multicast and NICE protocols to show the benefits of our new model.","PeriodicalId":185637,"journal":{"name":"CoNEXT Student '12","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117218817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many experiment management frameworks have been created to ease up the complexity and time cost of deploying experiments on different platforms. However, providing flexible deployment capabilities for arbitrary platforms remains a challenging problem.\u0000 In this work we propose an experiment controller architecture based on event scheduling, designed to enable flexible experiment deployment on diverse platforms. This architecture is capable of handling arbitrary deployment dependencies, both imposed by user requirements and by platform restrictions. It additionally enables flexible resource provisioning, at any point in time during experiment execution, and flexible experiment monitoring events.","PeriodicalId":185637,"journal":{"name":"CoNEXT Student '12","volume":"199 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116150683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Existing distribution methods typically rely on unicast flows to deliver this media. This can be inefficient if identical content is delivered at a later point in time. This success has attracted great interest in studying and measuring the characteristics of LBSNs. However, it is often prohibitive, and sometimes impossible, to obtain a detailed and complete snapshot of a LBSN due to its usually massive scale and the lack of proper tools. In this work, we focus on sampling and estimating restricted geographic regions in LBSNs, such as cities or states, in Foursquare. By utilizing the geographic search APIs provided by Foursquare, we propose a random region sampling algorithm that allows us to draw representative samples of venues (i.e., places), and design unbiased estimators of regional characteristics of venues. Moreover, using a unique dataset with 2.4 million venues, that we collected from Foursquare, we further explore the factors affecting the venue popularity, and present our preliminary findings, with applications in venue recommendation and advertising in LBSNs.","PeriodicalId":185637,"journal":{"name":"CoNEXT Student '12","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122736457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the Metropolitan Advanced Delivery Network (MADNet) project, we explore the potential of multiple interfaces on smartphones through a collaborative design to enable energy-aware WiFi-based mobile data offloading. We advocate that the vertical collaboration across different wireless access technologies and network vendors is the key to aggregate the power of mobile operators, WiFi service providers, and end-users. Aiming at reducing the energy consumption on smartphones, we propose an energy-aware algorithm supported by our collaborative architecture to avoid offloading to low-throughput WiFi networks which may consume more energy. The evaluation of streaming applications on our prototyped Nokia N900 smartphones demonstrates that we are able to achieve more than 80% energy saving. Our experiment in the wild also shows that our design can tolerate the minor errors of localization, mobility prediction, and offload capacity estimation.","PeriodicalId":185637,"journal":{"name":"CoNEXT Student '12","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128949030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The recently proposed Named Data Network (a.k.a., NDN) is promising in supporting content-centric multicast applications, but is lack of deadline-aware processing in which packets are processed differently according to its processing deadline. In this paper, we extend NDN data plane to support deadline-aware packet processing.
