Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The total population for the study was 787 comprising 119 school administrators and 668 academic staff. The entire school administrators (119) and 250 academic staff was proportionately sampled for the study. Personnel Appointment and Promotion Policy Statement Questionnaire (PAPPSQ) and Academic Staff Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (ASJSQ) were used for data collection. The reliability coefficient of the research instruments are 0.94 and 0.92 respectively. Means, Standard Deviation and z-test was used to answer research question and test the null hypotheses respectively. Strict adherence to the implementation of institutional appointment and promotion policy statements by school management was rated low and high respectively by the respondents. The study revealed that school administrators and academic staff are dissatisfied with the implementation of these policies. A significant difference was found between the perceptions of the respondents on the implementation of these policies by the tertiary institutions. Based on these findings, it was recommended among others that minimum qualification of first degree or its equivalent for appointment as an academic staff should be maintained and indicated in every vacancy advertisements by all state owned tertiary institutions in Adamawa state, staff should be promoted based on either research publications, time-in-rank or academic qualification as when due and monitoring teams should be set up by the institutions governing bodies to ensure strict adherence to implementation of all policy statements.","PeriodicalId":184745,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132207220","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We collected and inquired into specific factors that affect learning persistence. The result of analysis on those factors affecting learning persistence proposes learning efficacy, academic major satisfaction, and school satisfaction as statistically significant ones.The measures to maintain attending ratio and reduce dropouts rates based on the result above can be suggested as follows. First, the precondition is to select students with basic learning ability to follow major courses.Second, to maintain learning, it is more important than any others that the enrolled students are given in each school customized approaches to majors that have stress on correlation with individuals’ grades for satisfaction found in major courses and motivation to focus on learning by highlighting strong points of the majors.Last, it will be helpful to carry out image-making or public promotion activities that may encourage pride in their schools. To add, expansion of welfare programs or amenities for students are considered to help increase students’ will to keep learning.","PeriodicalId":184745,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129378525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, how GIS can implement place which is formed through human experience from the interaction between their social activities and natural environment is still in developing stage. This research employed VGI (volunteered geographic information) concept and used geo-tagged photos from Flickr web album to delineate the meaning of a place - Gongguan. The notion of “community†has been one of the key concepts in defining, safeguarding, and inscribing the intangible cultural heritages (ICH) in the context of UNESCO Programmes. In addition, the relationship between the communities and the ICH in academic analyses and policy-making is highly complex, multi-faceted, and closely inter-related that the two cannot be discussed separately. Based on the analyses and examination of ethnographic cases, this paper concludes that, although the communities’ opinions should be taken seriously in planning and implementing ICH safeguarding, it is important to consider the fact that the members of the communities are not homogeneous or in the same opinion.","PeriodicalId":184745,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115428794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The special focus is on generations. Emerging literature suggests that younger Asian American generations may be trying to avoid the model minority stereotype at the same time that younger Latino generations may be trying to use science as a ladder to mobility. Using recent GSS data on several measures of STEM attitudes and experience, we find considerable support for unique generational effects. Results show virtually no differences between generations on STEM attitudes and experiences among Latinos. In contrast, we find that generation has a significant influence on a majority of the STEM attitudes and experiences among Asian Americans with the second (plus) generation having fewer experiences and less positive attitudes. Findings support the increasingly distinct STEM attitudes and experiences of younger generations of Asian Americans relative to first generation Asian Americans. The experiences of second (or higher) generation Asian Americans are converging with those of second (or higher) generation Latinos. Differences between the first generation Asian Americans and Latinos are quite large with Asian Americans having more STEM experiences and positive attitudes in STEM. Implications of these findings for research and policy on STEM in the context of race/ethnicity and generations are discussed.","PeriodicalId":184745,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Humanities and Social Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130182966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
