These days there is a shift in Staphylococcus aureus sensitivity to antibiotics that is marked by the existence of Methicillin-Resistant Staphyloccus aureus, so alternative therapy that is herbal medicine might be needed. There are a lot of medicinal plants in Indonesia, but until today the usage is still minimum. One of the plant genus that is already being used is allium that had been known to have antimicrobial activity. The genus allium that is consumed a lot by Indonesians especially people of North Sumatra is bawang batak (Allium chinense G.Don.). This study is conducted to assess the antimicrobial activity of bawang batak bulbs in several concentrations to MRSA. Methods: This research is an experimental research with agar diffusion method. The extracts were divided into six groups: extracts in concentration level of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100% and a negative control (DMSO). The sample size is four per group with total sample of 24. Results: The results showed that the inhibition of bacterial growth occured at the concentration levels of 50% and 100% with inhibition zone diameters of 8.695 mm and 10.545 mm respectively. Extracts with concentration levels of 25%, 12.5% and 6.25% did not show any inhibition. Conclusion: Bawang batak bulbs extract can be used to inhibit the growth of MRSA","PeriodicalId":184699,"journal":{"name":"Sumatera Medical Journal","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133235187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 60 consented patients from Haji Adam Malik and Bunda Thamrin Hospital were included in this cohort prospectie study. Patients with heart, kidney, liver disease, history of surgery, chemotherapy, or hormonal therapy were excluded. Apoptotic indexes were taken from all subjects before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After 3 cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 31 subjects (51.7%) did not show clinical response while 29 subjects (48.3%) had clinical response. There was no significant difference of apoptotic index before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (5.47+1.38 vs 5.52+1.08 pg/mL). There was also no significant relationship between apoptosis index and clinical response (p=0.993). Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become more widely used choice compared to laparotomy cholecystectomy. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has now become the gold standard of abdominal surgery for abdominal surgery for gallbladder abnormalities, more than 90% of patients with gallstone disease are treated surgically by laparoscopy, but several studies have revealed an increase in SGOT &SGPT values in these surgical procedures. SGPT itself occurs due to the procedure of laparoscopy. In the procedure, there is a temporary increase in the pneumoperitoneum, the pressure on the pneumoperitoneum and its duration affect the severity of ischemia by causing an increase in this liver enzyme. Among several studies, one of them revealed that at 48 hours after laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery an enzyme increase. Objective. The purpose of the study, this research was conducted to see the changes in SGOT & SGPT values in laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery. Method. This research method is analytic with cross sectional study design conducted at North Sumatera University Hospital. This research was conducted by looking at secondary data, namely the medical record of patients with gallstones who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery from January 2019 to November 2019. The sample was selected by using total sampling method. Data were then analyzed using statistical application software. The number of samples was 45 samples with a diagnosis of gallstones who performed laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Results. Wilcoxon test results showed a significant change between SGOT and SGPT levels before performing operations with SGOT and SGPT levels after surgery with p=0.000 (p<0,05). Conclusion. There are changes in SGOT & SGPT in laparoscopic cholecystectomy.","PeriodicalId":184699,"journal":{"name":"Sumatera Medical Journal","volume":"196 12","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120983652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The prevalence is increasing each year worldwide, including Indonesia. Consistent with this trend, the prevalence of hemodialysis (HD) as a therapy is also increasing. CKD as well as HD often result in some complications, one being gastrointestinal disorders. Many factors are correlated with the incidence of gastrointestinal disorders in CKD patients undergoing HD. Objective: This research is held to observe the factors affecting gastrointestinal disorders in regular HD patients. Method: This is an observational analytical research with cross-sectional study at RS Khusus Ginjal Rasyida Medan. The datas used in the research are primary datas, obtained from Gastrointestinal Symptoms Rating Scale (GSRS) questionnaire to assess severity of gastrointestnal disorders in HD patients, and secondary datas, obtained from medical records of age, smoking history, use of aspirin, HD duration, BUN, and Kt/V (as a parameter of HD adequacy). Then the datas are analyzed univariately, bivariately, and mutivariately using biner logistic regression model. It is considered significant if the obtained p value is <0,05 (p<0,05). Result: All patients (100%) suffer from gastrointestinal disorders, with the most common being mild ones (67,1%). Final multivariate analysis shows that the duration of HD, BUN level, and Kt/V are significantly correlated with worsening gastrointestinal disorders (OR:14,157 ,95%CI 2,851 ± 71,183, p=0,001; OR: 8,352, 95%CI 0,914 ± 76,344, p= 0,060; OR:8,219 ,95%CI 0,893 ± 75,674, p= 0,063).
