Along with many adverse factors affecting the health of girls and young women, who should be considered as expectant mothers, stress takes one of the leading positions. Objective : To study the level of stress in female students with menstrual dysfunction. Materials and methods : 136 female students from 18 to 23 years old (average age 19.3 ± 2.6 years). All of the participants completed a questionnaire compiled by the authors on the basis of standard questions in collecting general and gynecological anamnesis, criteria for diagnosing premenstrual syndrome, psychological stress scale PSM-25 (fully included, no changes), and Beck scale (fully included, no changes). The following features of the menstrual cycle were studied: cycle duration, menstruation duration, profusion, soreness, and regularity of menstruation as well as the presence of psycho-emotional changes during the phase changes of the cycle. A systematic review was carried out of 25 studies (review articles, qualitative studies, questionnaires, retrospective and prospective studies) published in Russian and English from 2000 to 2019 (with a predominant including (88%) data for the last 10 years) using the PubMed, ScienceDirect, ProQuest and GoogleScholar databases. Results : 82.4% (n = 112) of the examined female students had various menstrual dysfunctions; the highest frequency was premenstrual syndrome (91.1%) and primary dysmenorrhea (85.7%). Students with high levels of stress and depression expressed significantly more often (p <0.05) with irregular rhythms of menstruation in comparison to the healthy group. Conclusions : It is recommended to physicians take into account the stress influence on gynecological pathology, while the awareness of young women about their health status should also be raised.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2021-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48863221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present online survey was completed by 1808 participants (1110 women, 698 men) with a mean age 45.64 ± 15.33 years. About 24% of the participants reported that they had dealt with dreams within professional contexts, and about 50% of the participants reporting that they know at least one person who is regularly engaged in dream topics. Overall, the findings indicate that most dream sharing takes place in private settings, e.g., partnerships, but this study is the first to show that at least some of the dream sharing also occurs within professional contexts. To expand the findings of this exploratory study it would be interesting to investigate the nature and context of dream sharing within professional contexts more deeply.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2021-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42252564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of video calls (e.g., WhatsApp, Skype) and videoconferencing (e.g., Zoom, Meet) was the only way to avoid the interruption of psychotherapy and psychological counselling. However, the shift from offline to online psychotherapeutic settings has raised interesting theoretical and technical questions about how to consider the frame of clinical intervention. This article aims to contribute to the reflection on the characteristics of the online setting (videoconference) and its differences and specificities compared to the traditional setting. Methods: The article proposes a clinical case treated in an online psychotherapeutic setting. The intervention was carried out in the context of a counseling and psychological support service of an Italian university. Results: After a brief presentation of the case - a young adult with anxiety symptoms - the article describes a relational episode that occurred during a video-call interview (Skype). On the one hand, the episode highlights the characteristics of the patient and, on the other, how the online setting facilitated the expression of the patient's relational patterns. Conclusions: The case refers to a young adult who seems to develop interpersonal relationships based on presence/absence. The others (parents, partners) are always described as lacking something and, therefore, in some way, \"absent\". The patient himself is described as lacking something (e.g. masculinity) and shows himself unable to be fully present in situations. However, the theme of presence/absence also characterizes the online psychotherapeutic setting: presence is disembodied, lacking physicality. On the one hand, the clinical case highlights the need to understand the characteristics of the online setting better, and on the other hand, the importance of always keeping frame and process connected. It is fundamental to remember that what happens in the setting and is always an integral part of the clinical intervention.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66183062","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By measuring workplace stressors, the management of medical organizations can identify the most important sources of physicians’ exhaustion and can change different administrative policies to reduce them. Another widespread practice in stress management is the measurement of individual differences that could be vulnerability or protection factors for the occurrence of exhaustion, such as emotional intelligence. This study explored the relationship between physicians' emotional intelligence and their perceived level of the most significant stressors. One hundred nine physicians ( Mage = 35.42, SD = 7.05, 7.3% males, 92.7% females) from the field of neonatology, pediatrics, or anesthesiology, recruited from the South-West, South-East, and the North of Romania completed measures of emotional intelligence and perceived work-related stressors. Emotional intelligence (intrapersonal emotional intelligence, interpersonal emotional intelligence, stress management, adaptability, and general mood) was measured with the Romanian version of Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-i) and perceived stressors at work (work relationship, aspects of the job, overload, control, lack of job security, lack of resources and communication, lack of work-life balance) were measured with the Romanian version of Organizational Stress Screening Tool (ASSET). The zero-order correlations among study variables were conducted, followed by a series of hierarchical multiple regressions. Stress management explained 11% of the extent to which work relationships were perceived as a stressor. Intrapersonal emotional intelligence accounted for 6.4% of the variance in the extent to which the lack of work-life balance was perceived as a stressor. Stress management accounted for 17% of the variance in the extent to which the lack of resources and poor communication were perceived as stressors. Intrapersonal emotional intelligence accounted for 6.6% of the variance in the extent to other aspects of the job were perceived as stressors. There were no differences regarding the perceived stressors between the considered geographic regions (South-West, South-East, and North). Drawing on these findings, decision-makers may develop training programs to enhance the level of emotional intelligence with the aim of decreasing work-related stress in the medical field in Romania.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45228916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of study is to determine the prevalence of daytime sleepiness and sleep quality and associated risk factors among medical students in medical college, in Bristol, United Kingdom. It was a cross-sectional study and 153 medical students were selected through stratified random sampling techniques. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was used to assess the sleep pattern and Epworth Sleepiness Scale was used to measure daytime sleepiness. Association of sleep quality and daytime sleepiness and its risk factors were determined through regression analysis. Students suffering from severe disorder of sleep quality was 21.6% and severe daytime sleepiness 3.9%. In multivariate analysis after adjustment of covariates, in daytime sleepiness, male gender (OR.1.33, CI 1.06-3.04) [p-value 0.040] and those students who smoke cigarettes [OR 4.65, (CI 1.48-5.14) [p-value 0.018] were more likely associated with severe daytime sleepiness disorder. In Sleep quality disorder, those students who had low academic score [OR 3.13(CI 1.28-4.87) [p-value 0.035] and those students who smoke cigarettes [OR 3.04 (CI 2.34-4.29) [p-value 0.010] were more than likely associated with severe sleep quality disorder. Majority of students suffered from poor sleep quality and day time sleepiness. Male gender, smoking, academic score and academic years was the major predictor for poor sleep quality and day time sleepiness. There is need for awareness and counselling among student for reduced the sleep disorder burden.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47405106","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cosplaying appeared related to narcissistic fragility which in turn is strictly linked to social appearance anxiety and self-objectification experiences. However, despite the body image centrality in cosplay practice, no studies evaluated cosplayers’ narcissistic vulnerability in association with these body image-related issues. A total of 926 young adults (73.2% female; 47.3% cosplayer; mean age=25.3 years) participated in the study. Results confirmed the direct and indirect effect of narcissistic vulnerability on social appearance anxiety (via body surveillance and body shame) among both cosplayers and non-cosplayers. Overall, narcissistically vulnerable individuals, regardless of their involvement in cosplay practice, seem to experience higher body surveillance and body shame, which in turn might promote social appearance anxiety.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44186895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: For the study were enrolled 54 patients undergoing a routine dental health visit. They answered the Negative Impact of Dental Aesthetics Scale (NIDAS), the Perception of Occlusion Scale (POS). Moreover, undergoes to the Approximal Plaque Index (API), the Gingival Bleeding Index (GBI), and the number of decayed teeth (DT) and missing teeth (MT). All data were analyzed using different statistical procedures. Results: The subjects ranging within the upper POS quartile scored higher on the GBI (contrast: P= 0.037) and DT (P= 0.028) than did those in the lower POS quartiles. Different to the patients who had minor negative impacts in the NIDAS, those with strong impacts had higher scores on the API (P<005). Compared to patients without previous orthodontic treatment, those with a history of orthodontic treatment lasting 24 months had a lower API (P <0.05), GBI and DT (each P = 0.008) scores. Conclusion: The present results suggest that self-perceived dental irregularity and the negative impact of periodontitis might affect oral health, whereas previous extensive orthodontic treatment may have favourable effects by improving dental health compliance.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48511585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The treatment of choice for this pathology was based on the use of the multimodal laser, which contributed to the improvement of the patients' quality of life. Methods: the present study was conducted on a number of 6 male patients, with different levels of severity and with Fizpatrick II and III type skin. For their treatment the following were used: Cutera Xeo vascular NdYag laser, Cutero Xeo LimeLight laser, program A (vascular), Cutera Pearl Fractional laser. Results: We found that methods such as drugs, radiofrequency or dermabrasion didn’t give optimal results. Therefore, after a classification of patients with mild, moderate and severe forms, we have applied the treatment according to these 3 forms of rhinophyma, based on the principle of the “subunit method”. Our treatment has been reduced to two methods: multimodal laser treatment and surgical treatment. Conclusions: In mild and medium forms we considered sufficient multimodal laser treatment, a combination of NdYag, ErYag and intensely pulsed light, while in severe forms only surgical treatment brings optimal results. All patients were satisfied with the treatment, with responses ranging from increased self-esteem and social comfort to a better quality of life.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":"8 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41266063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were administered the Italian translation of the Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 36-item version (PID-5-36) in order to assess the relationships between sleep, dysfunctional personality domains and internalizing symptomatology. Latent difference factor (LDF) model was used to estimate latent change in PSQI scores; all analyses on the relationships between the PSQI and the dysfunctional personality domain measures and internalizing symptoms were carried out using latent factor scores. Our findings showed that selected dysfunctional personality traits were significantly associated with changes in perceived quality of sleep among adult university students during the lockdown in Italy. The relationship between PID-5-36 Negative Affectivity and changes in the perceived quality of sleep was only partially mediated by the severity of self-reported depression. The assessment of perceived depressive symptom severity and Negative Affectivity may prove clinically useful for carrying out preventive interventions on sleep quality.","PeriodicalId":18428,"journal":{"name":"Mediterranean Journal of Clinical Psychology","volume":"8 1","pages":"22"},"PeriodicalIF":2.6,"publicationDate":"2020-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44517455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
