It is the basis of a wide range of end-user services. It is deployed using a wide range of technologies, which hampers interoperability. This paper proposes a peer to peer infrastructure for enabling a universal presence service, a service that will enable end-users with multiple presence accounts in domains with different technologies to publish and discover end-user context information through a single interface. Requirements are derived, an architecture is proposed and implementation aspects are discussed. The architecture is an overlay and the related procedures and protocols are introduced. Innovative and pervasive nature of Web 2.0 services has led telecom operators to a strong competition with internet content providers as over-the-top applications are getting very popular. Services can be created faster in the Web 2.0 world where anyone can develop. It is in contrast with the legacy telecom infrastructure where services are tightly coupled with the underlying access networks. Recently, telecom operators have been rolling out the IMS, which provides an environment for rapid application development of services. However, applications created on top of the IMS are based on SIP, which is not popular in the Web 2.0 domain. This paper proposes a flexible platform for provisioning telecom services that is independent of the underlying communications protocol being deployed. There has been a steady shift from voice to video communication which includes video calls, television streaming and video on demand services. The introduction of Next Generation Networks has led to the convergence of fixed and mobile devices. These devices have different capabilities such as different screen sizes and are connected through different access networks and support different codecs. Due to these differences it is impossible to stream a single video format to all devices. In this paper we present a real time video adaption framework which allows end users and network operators to transmit video frames between any devices with real time video quality adaptation. The impact of vehicular speed and the effects of allocating slots reserved exclusively for handover calls are investigated. Using vehicular traces from inductive loops on the M4 motorway in the UK, the impact of congestion due to lower vehicular speeds is simulated to show the impact on the communication layer. The simulation is then performed with varying number of slots reserved exclusively for handover calls. The considered area for the simulation consists of three contiguous base stations in a cellular network. The voice services considered use constant bit rate (CBR) data generation and has been modelled using a Poisson process with mean inter-arrival times and call duration periods generated for all vehicles independent of each other. This presented approach mitigates the effects of ICI (Inter-Cell Interference) by finding suboptimal frequency and power assignments to all users in a given cellular network. We motivate a social emergency alert service that makes use of the wide availability of smart phones and activates nearby social contacts in cases of emergency. Research has shown, that especially in busy urban districts help from fellow citizens is hard to receive because of the so-called bystander-effect: Nearby people often do not recognize or take responsibility for ongoing emergency situations. A simple and fast mechanism to call for help is necessary. Additional to local authorities as the police or rescue services, assistance from family or acquaintances is a valuable and fast(er) supplement. We describe the architecture of an emergency alert service providing the functionality required for the activation of social contacts and present a prototype. The distribution of tasks between mobile devices and server infrastructure and the underlying communication protocol are designed energy-efficient and privacy preserving. All routing protocols have the same in this goal, but the method that adopts to achieve this is different. This paper propose a new modification of CBRP protocol called Vice Cluster Head Cluster Based Routing Protocol (VCH-CBRP) that elect one Vice Cluster Head (VCH) in each cluster rather than one cluster head to increase the lifetime of the cluster in the network in case of the absence of the cluster head suddenly. We evaluate our contribution of CBRP protocol and compare the results with the traditional CBRP protocol. UCML focuses on developing and executing ubiquitous control applications within smart mobile devices by typing specific predefined XML elements in UCML modules directly on the device. The module function is to acquire data from mobile phone built-in sensors, apply conditions on these data, and trigger a response when these conditions are satisfied. The user can identify which sensor, condition and response to be used. UCML application has been designed to be friendly, easy-to-use, natural-understanding language that is suitable for sensor-interested mobile phone users. Google’s Android is the chosen platform to be the underlying operating system for UCML. This paper proposes the On-Device Development approach (ODD) and discusses some technologies and tools that have influenced the development of UCML. The current UCML version represents basic prototype software with sample conditions and responses. In order to support safety related applications in delay tolerant networks, the design of an efficient routing protocol for VANETs is extremely crucial. The main requirement for all routing protocols is to achieve minimum delay with minimum consumption of network resources. In this paper we propose a position-based routing algorithm namely position-based routing with Most Forward within Radius (PRMFR) which clearly enhances the performance of the system compared to flooding based routing protocols such as epidemic routing in terms of packet dropping probability and the total number of transmissions. Position based routing protocols are known to use the node’s geographical locations in order to initiate a route between the source and the destination. Moreover, we introduce a percentage of greedy nodes to both protocols, and study their impact on the performance.
