A key facet of the title of liberty incident is its deep-rooted martial setting, suggesting that the title of liberty functioned as a war banner. Numerous aspects of the title of liberty episode related to warfare and battle standards fit comfortably in an ancient Mesoamerican context. While this event has captured the attention of scholars in the past, one important bibliographic clue has remained unexplored. Cole published his newspaper in the same printshop that published the Book of Mormon. Because of this proximity, Cole’s excerpts as printed in the Reflector offer important clues (based on their type and composition) about the chronology of the Book of Mormon’s printing. His target audience for such reappraisal of the Book of Mormon’s value seems to be pri-marily his fellows in the Community of Christ, but Tyree also contends that more readers generally will find spiritual benefit from the Book of Mormon’s witness of Christ. While Book of Mormon proponents will find Tyree’s advocacy admirable, this review suggests that many such pro-ponents will be disappointed by Tyree’s underestimation of the Book of Mormon’s complexity and richness. In an attempt to dissuade readers away from contests over the Book of Mormon’s historicity, Tyree also seems to ignore recent and robust scholarship on all facets of the Book of","PeriodicalId":183152,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Book of Mormon Studies","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133052492","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
