In this talk we look at some risks when doing interdisciplinary research involving psychology, behavioural aspects, and affect/emotion of software engineers. Based on our experience from studies in behavioural software engineering, we give some proposals for the future of \"soft\" software engineering.","PeriodicalId":181587,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE/ACM 4th International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering (SEmotion)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115278807","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The toolkit is written in Java, Python, and R, and is released under the MIT open source license. In this paper, we describe its architecture and the benchmark against the previous, standalone versions of our sentiment analysis tools. Results show large improvements in terms of speed.","PeriodicalId":181587,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE/ACM 4th International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering (SEmotion)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123064040","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
{"title":"What Software Engineering Can Learn from Research on Affect in Social Psychology","authors":"Lucas Gren, Per Lenberg, Karolina Ljungberg","doi":"10.1109/SEmotion.2019.00015","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/SEmotion.2019.00015","url":null,"abstract":"Social psychology researchers have, traditionally, focused on the construct of thinking rather than on feeling. Since the beginning of the 21st century, social science researchers have, however, increasingly explored the effects of affect. Their work has repeatedly recognized that affects play a crucial role in determining people's behavior. In this short paper, we argue that software engineering studies on affect would benefit from using more of the knowledge that social science researchers have acquired. Without accounting for their findings, we risk re-inventing the wheel. Also, without a profound understanding of the complex interplay between social context and affect, we risk creating overly simplistic solutions that might have considerable long-term adverse effects for software engineers.","PeriodicalId":181587,"journal":{"name":"2019 IEEE/ACM 4th International Workshop on Emotion Awareness in Software Engineering (SEmotion)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122892791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
