Høitomt","doi":"10.25227/linbg.01115","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.25227/linbg.01115","url":null,"abstract":"Encalypta vulgaris is well known for its wide morphological variation, here we study morphological and genetic variation of E. vulgaris in Scandinavia and compare this with the closely related E. rhaptocarpa and the morphologically similar E. mutica. Our morphological and genetic results indicate that Scandinavian plants of E. vulgaris s.l. includes two taxa, E. vulgaris s.s. and a new species here described as E. driva. The two species differ genetically by plastid markers while the included nuclear markers do not differentiate between the two. Morphologically they can be separated both by gametophytic and sporophytic characters. Subsecunda (Sphagnaceae) Bryophyta. The new species is described and characterized using morphological methods. The description is based on qualitative examination of morphological characters of shoots, stems, branches and leaves. The new peatmoss is known from a single locality at a tabletop (tepui) mountain in the Chimantá Massif, Canima National Park in the state Bolívar of Venezuela. After being dormant since the publication of the World Checklist, we now re-establish it to publish mainly shorter notes on taxonomy and nomenclature of hornworts and liverworts. In the checklist by Söderström et al. (2010) Taxilejeunea parvibracteata Steph. was reported from Java based on Eifrig (1936). This was based on a data entry error for what should have been Taxilejeunea parvisaccata Steph. Eifrig which needed a new name when transferred to Lejeunea Lib., Lejeunea micholitzii Mizut., since Lejeunea parvisaccata (Steph.) Steph. is a blocking name. The excursion was attended by twenty-one participants. Special emphasis was given to boreal aapa mires and their Sphagnum species. A multitude of Sphagnum species typical to the area was encountered. Also, Red Listed species of meso- and eutrophic flark fens were discovered, e.g. Hamatocaulis vernicosus, H. lapponicus, Meesia longiseta, Schistochilopsis grandiretis and Moerckia flotoviana. Sphagnum annulatum, S. flexuosum, S. divinum, Heterogemma laxa and Scapania umbrosa were collected for the first time from Kittilän Lappi biogeographical province. Sphagnum annulatum, S. divinum, Campylium laxifolium, Pohlia sphagnicola, Gymnocolea borealis and Heterogemma laxa were collected for the first time from Sompion Lappi biogeographical province. Hedenäs","doi":"10.25227/linbg.01144","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.25227/linbg.01144","url":null,"abstract":"The intraspecific variation of the morphologically variable moss Distichium capillaceum is studied based on the nuclear marker ITS (1 and 2) and the plastid markers rpl16 and trnL-trnF for 86 specimens collected mainly in Scandinavia, using D. inclinatum as outgroup. A wider specimen set, including GenBank sequences of eight D. capillaceum and two D. hagenii, was analysed based on ITS only. Since potential reticulation was revealed and significant evidence for recombination was found, network analyses were performed. The ITS analysis revealed D. hagenii as more closely related to D. capillaceum than to D. inclinatum. The analysis based on all molecular markers identified one grade and four lineages in D. capillaceum. No lineage received strong molecular support, and morphology could not effectively distinguish the five entities. The grade and four lineages occur in different geographical areas, which were suggested to be a result either of different glacial and postglacial histories or different habitat requirements.
