I start by offering the context in which sex work has come to be debated in India over the past 20 years. I then delineate the varied feminist positions addressing the “prostitution question” before offering both an account of Indian sex workers’ mobilizational efforts over the same period and their articulation of a position that views sex work as a form of reproductive labor that ought to be socially and legally recognized as work.","PeriodicalId":180169,"journal":{"name":"Routledge Handbook of Gender in South Asia","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127566646","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
