Because the size, thousand-grain weight, angle of repose, angle of friction, bulk density and terminal velocity of perilla have significant differences according to the perilla variety, the different of characteristics by variety should be considered for performance improvement of a perilla cleaner and stone separator. Therefore the cleaner and stone separator using a sieve could be improved by the application of a detachable sieve or by using equipment such as a 2 3 stage sieve and regulating the slope. Moreover, because differences in the terminal velocity occur due to the differences in the size and thousand-grain weight according to the perilla variety, a blower with an adjustable fan speed was considered for the design of the improved cleaner. Additionally, it was shown that the length of perilla has the greatest correlation based on a comparison of the coefficients of the other characteristics. Accordingly, the length of perilla could be used as a major factor for the fine adjustment and parts replacement of the device. These results can be used as basic data for a high-quality, high-efficiency perilla cleaner and stone separator. Cho","doi":"10.7744/kjoas.20190025","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.7744/kjoas.20190025","url":null,"abstract":"Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disease associated with age, and amyloid beta (Aβ) is known to cause Alzheimer’s disease. In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of Cirsium japonicum var. maackii extract and its fractions against Aβ-induced neurotoxicity in C6 glial cells. The cells treated with Aβ25-35 showed a decrease in cell viability and an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) production compared with the non-treated cells. However, the cells treated with the C. japonicum var. maackii extract and its fractions increased the cell viability and inhibited the Aβ-induced ROS production. These results demonstrate the neuroprotective effects of C. japonicum var. maackii against Aβ. To further examine the protective mechanism, we measured inflammation and apoptosis related protein expressions. The cells treated with extract and fractions from C. japonicum var. maackii down-regulated inflammatory related proteins such as cyclooxygenase-2, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6, and attenuated apoptosis related proteins including B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) associated X protein/Bcl-2 ratio. In particular, the ethanol and ethylacetate fraction exhibited higher inhibitory effect against ROS production and apoptosis-related protein expressions among the extract and the other fractions. Twenty-two late fattening steers were randomly assigned to one of two dietary groups, control (commercial concentrate + rice straw) and treatment (commercial concentrate + rice straw + 50 g of CFA). Average daily gain (ADG) was 4.0% higher in treatment than that in control; however, there was no statistically significant difference. The supplementation of CFA had no effect on overall yield or quality traits of carcass. CFA had no effect on chemical composition, water holding capacity, shear force, cooking loss, or myoglobin values in longissimus muscle; however, the content of α-tocopherol was increased by supplementation of CFA (p < 0.01). The contents of α-linolenic acid and n-3 fatty acids were higher in treatment group than in control (p < 0.01). The ratio of n-6/n-3 fatty acids was decreased by supplementation of CFA (p < 0.01). The supplementation of CFA had no effect on pH or thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values in longissimus muscle (raw); however, TBARS (cooked) values were lower in treatment group than in control during refrigerated storage (p < 0.01).
