This study aimed to evaluate the potential involvement of nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-kB) and the Janus activated kinase (JAK) and Signal transducer and activator of transcription proteins (STAT) signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of genetically predisposed depression in female rats. The obtained results showed increased phosphorylation in JAK2 and STAT3, and increased protein levels of NF-kB in the hippocampus of Wistar Kyoto rats compared to Wistar rats. These results suggest that disturbance in these pathways could have a significant role in the pathophysiology of genetically predisposed depression in females.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This scientific paper presents a comprehensive study on the gamma spectrometry analysis and health risk assessment of edible liquids. The study involved samples of various liquid products such as alcoholic beverages, juices, and milk. Milk is an important part of our regular diet for everyone, from newborns to adults, so we determined the active concentrations of radionuclides for both milk from farms directly and milk bought in a supermarket. The gamma spectrometry analysis was performed using a high-purity germanium detector to determine the concentration of natural and artificial radionuclides. The radioactivity of each sample is presented as the mean value of the measured sample from five different manufacturers. In conclusion, the gamma spectrometry analysis and health risk assessment of edible liquids demonstrated that the concentration of radionuclides in the selected liquid food products was not a major health concern. However, continuous monitoring and evaluation are recommended to ensure that the safety of the products is maintained within the permissible limits.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Histopathological examination is used as a primary source of identifying the difference between malignant and benign processes. We analyzed ovarian tissue samples of twelve women, ages ranging from 21 to 77. Samples of 8 benign, 1 borderline, and 3 malignant ovarian tumors were included in the study. Using the quantitative PCR method, genes indicating apoptotic processes in tissue cells were evaluated, based on monitoring their relative expression. Relative gene expression was monitored for anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, pro-apoptotic protein Bax, and effector protein Cas3. Expression of gene for protein Bax and Bcl-2 is increased and Bax predominates, which indicates that the initiation of apoptosis has begun, mostly in benign tumors. Bcl-2 was elevated in samples of borderline and malignant tumors while Bax was decreased, which indicates the inhibition of apoptosis in these samples.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is the most common malignancy and there is a need for new approaches in therapies. Surgery, radiation and chemotherapy are the key components of colon cancer treatment. Besides common chemotherapy, alternative therapies are being studied to increase treatment effectiveness and reduce side effects. In this article, colorectal carcinoma cells were treated with chemotherapeutics and relative gene expression was investigated for the genes coding cytoskeleton proteins: CDH1, CTNNB1 and CDH2; for redox status genes: GPX1, GPX2, GPX3, GPX4, TXNRD1, GSTP1, NFE2L2, NFKB1, HIF1A; and for apoptosis genes: CASP3, CASP8, CASP9, FAS, BCL-2 and BAX. The results of our research showed that some concentrations of chemotherapeutics increased the expression of certain genes. Molecular alterations that lead to colorectal cancer can determine appropriate and effective treatment - chemotherapeutics, as well as the design of direct therapeutic targets.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Because the human head is one of the most exposed and sensitive organs in the body, this paper investigated the propagation of the electromagnetic (EM) field through it. Additionally, the Specific absorption rate (SAR) was examined to study how RF radiation affects the human head. A program code using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method was created to simulate the propagation of RF radiation through the six layers that make up the human head (skin, fat, bone, dura mater, CSF, and brain). RF radiation at the following frequencies was investigated: 0.9 GHz, 1.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz, 3.35 GHz, and 4.5 GHz. Values of the thickness and parameters of the layers can also be changed in the program. It was discovered that the majority of the EM energy is absorbed in the skin of the human head.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of this manuscript was to determine the variability of ten barley cultivars based on b-glucan content. The percentage of b-glucan varied in the range of 4.44% to 8.17%, with a mean value of 6.57%. Based on b-glucan content, the degree of cultivar similarity was determined by the dendrogram. Among analyzed barley cultivars, the highest concentration of b-glucan was found in the cultivar Lav and Ukras, while the lowest concentration was observed in the cultivar Vihor (4.44%). Compared with all the other cultivars mentioned, a pair of cultivars expressed the greatest distance. Statistical analysis showed that there is a significant difference between analyzed barley cultivars. The analysis of b-glucans in varieties of barley in two growing seasons aims to develop an agricultural strategy and develop barley varieties with higher b-glucans content.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136138959","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most of the data were collected during research camps of the Scientic Research Society of Biology and Ecology Students \"Josif Pančić\" that took place from 2013 to 2018, when 27 Odonata species were recorded. If this research is combined with previously published data, 37 species of damselflies and dragonflies were recorded in Landscape of Outstanding Features “Vlasina”. The paper presents distribution and reproduction status of the recorded species, as well as their diversity in this area. The most important species is Epitheca bimaculata (Charpentier, 1825), because Vlasina represents one of its southernmost and highest habitats in Europe. For Sympetrum flaveolum (Linnaeus, 1758) Vlasina is one of the most important habitats in Serbia, as well as for Leucorrhinia pectoralis (Charpentier, 1825) which is Natura 2000 species.","PeriodicalId":17829,"journal":{"name":"Kragujevac Journal of Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48276675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
