Patients and methods: This study was performed in the Ufuk University Faculty of Medicine, Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Psychiatry between November 2007 and February 2008. A total of 54 patients (45 males, 9 females; mean age 9.7±2.2 years; range 7 to 12 years) with ADHD and 36 healthy controls (19 males, 17 females; mean age 9.8±2.3 years; range 7 to 12 years) were included in the study. The sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the individuals and the joint pain severity in the last month were recorded. Pain severity was assessed with the Faces Pain Scale-Revised (FPS-R) and the Likert Pain Scale. The joint hypermobility was evaluated by using Beighton scores. Results: Benign joint hypermobility syndrome was found in 31.5% of the patients with ADHD and 13.9% of the individuals in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (p=0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in FPS-R or Likert Pain Scale scores (p>0.05). A statistically significant increase was observed in the Beighton total score in ADHD patients compared with the control group (p=0.004). Conclusion: The results of this study support that joint hypermobility may be associated with ADHD, and this condition should be taken into consideration in assessing the complaints of patients with ADHD-related musculoskeletal symptoms.","PeriodicalId":177565,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Rheumatology-turk Romatoloji Dergisi","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131907850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amac: Bu calismada romatoid artritli (RA) hastalarda ve saglikli kontrol deneklerinde insan glukokortikoid reseptor genindeki (NR3C1) Bcl 1-CG polimorfizminin klinik veriler ve tedaviye yanitla iliskisi arastirildi. Hastalar ve yontemler: Bu calismada 65 RA’li hasta (47 kadin, 18 erkek) ve 70 saglikli kontrol deneginde (47 kadin, 23 erkek) PCR-RFLP (Polimeraz zincir reaksiyonurestriksiyon parca uzunluk polimorfizmi) yontemiyle NR3C1 geni intron 2 bolgesindeki Bcl I parca uzunluk polimorfizmleri calisildi. Hastalarin onceki ilac oykusu ile birlikte klinik parametreleri ve demografik ozellikleri de kaydedildi. Ek olarak hastalarda tedaviye yanit gorsel analog olcegi (GAO), Hastalik Aktivitesi Skoru (DAS28) ve Hastalik Degerlendirme Anketi (SDA) skorlariyla izlendi. Bulgular: NR3C1 Bcl I polimorfizmi genotip frekanslari RA’li hastalarla kontroller arasinda farklilik gostermedi. Romatoid artrit grubunda test edilen alellerde HardyWeinberg esitliginden bir sapma oldugu tespit edildi (Rap=0.044, Kp=0.554). Bununla birlikte genotipler arasinda yas, cinsiyet, hastalik suresi ve GAO, DAS28 ve SDA gibi klinik parametreler acisindan fark saptanmadi (p>0.05). Sonuc: Glukokortikoid reseptoru geni Bcl I polimorfizmi RA ve kontrol grubu arasinda farklilik gostermese de RA grubunda test edilen alellerde Hardy-Weinberg esitliginden bir sapma tespit edildi. Bu durum glukokortikoid reseptoru geni polimorfizmi Bcl I-CG’nin RA etyopatogenezinde ve glukokortikoidlerle uygulanan tedaviye gelisen yanitta rol oynayabilecegini gostermektedir.","PeriodicalId":177565,"journal":{"name":"Turkish Journal of Rheumatology-turk Romatoloji Dergisi","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128898966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
