Radiographically it is expressed as a mixed lesion, with the presence of radiopaque and some radiolucent areas, well circumscribed, which is observed mainly in the mandible. GC behaves in a similar way to other maxillary lesions, both clinically and in histopathology, which could make its diagnosis difficult and confusing. Due to its locally aggressive and deforming behavior, the suggested treatment is resection of the lesion with safety margins.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126281234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) often demonstrates different behaviors in relation to aggressiveness and therapeutic response at the same TNM stage. So, in such cases biomarkers can be used to identify the biological diversity of these tumors more reliably, leading to better therapeutic strategies and disease management. The presence of inflammatory immune cells in the tumor microenvironment can have pro or antitumor effects and the investigation of the expression of inflammatory markers in OSSC can be usefulto design immunotherapeutic interventions. The Transforming Growth Factor alpha is a potent stimulator of cell migration that acts on cell proliferation, invasion and metastasis of cancer, as well as immune suppression and angiogenesis. Inflammatory cytokines, such as Interferon-gamma, mediate macrophage differentiation. Macrophages are an important component of the OSCC microenvironment. The greater amount of tu-mor-associated macrophages, especially the M2 phenotype, may be associated with a more aggressive biological behavior of the OSCC and, consequently, with reduced survival.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132510891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The patient presents a favorable evolution. A literature review was carried out in relation to the use of the adipose body of the cheek in reconstructive maxillofacial surgery. The use of external tutors is presented as a valid and favorable alternative for trauma with extensive damage to soft and hard tissue. The use of the adipose body of the cheek is reported in various uses in oral and maxillofacial surgery, however, its use as a locoregional graft for closing processes that require grafting is scarce; it is presented as a proposal in this report.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128522830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most cases diagnosed in late stages even when early detection and control of risk factors are the most effective tools to reduce the high lethality of this disease. The level of knowledge, attitudes and practices of dentists regarding oral cancer prevention in Argentina is unknown. To evaluate, through a questionnaire, the knowledge, attitudes and practices about oral cancer in the province of Salta, Argentina. In a convenience sample of 76 dentists who practiced their profession and who attended an event of the provincial dental association, a confidential survey applied on knowledge, attitudes and practices on the prevention of oral cancer. The survey analyzed based on descriptive and inferential statistics. Dentists are aware of risk factors for oral cancer, such as tobacco use (88.2 %), presence of potentially malignant lesions (84.2 %), alcohol consumption, but also about types of premalignant lesions. (88.2 %) and main location of oral cancer (84.2 %). Attitudes depend on \"having a specialty in the dental field\" and \"having taken a formal course in the last 12 months\" (c2 = 13.512, DF= 4, p=0.009). Practices depend on (cid:210)having taken a formal course in the last 12 months(cid:211), on the (cid:210)belief that the professional is adequately prepared to perform an examination for oral cancer(cid:211), and the (cid:210)type of professional practice(cid:211) (c2 = 14.078, DF=7, p=0.034). This study revealed that it is necessary to strengthen the knowledge, attitudes and practices of dentists in the Province of Salta in Argentina regarding the prevention of oral cancer, this with the purpose of designing really effective public health strategies, which also not only must be executed by the health authority but must be examined by dental schools.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123811735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is important to establish a diagnosis regarding its clinical and radiological characteristics in order to carry out adequate surgical treatment planning, with few or no post-intervention complications. Case presentation: This study reports the case of a 10-year-old boy, with no morbid history, who presented a supernumerary tooth, found radiographically in the midline. CBCT showed a mesiodens in the nasal septum, tilted and inverted palatal, partially erupted covered by nasal mucosa, with its crown facing the nasal cavity in relation to the nostrils. The tooth was extracted under general anesthesia using a transoral approach through a vestibulotomy. The nasal supernumerary tooth is a rare pathology. It is important to know its clinical and radiographic characteristics since they will determine the type of approach to be used. The degree of eruption, the distance to the anterior nasal spine and its associated symptoms are essential to determine whether the surgical approach is intraoral or extraoral.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131344453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electronic cigarettes use chemicals in liquid form, which are incorporated, heated and vaporized. Such solutions may or may not contain nicotine. For this reason, many users of conventional cigarettes rely on the idea of stopping their addiction by switching to electronic cigarettes, with the justification of reduced harm. Despite a scientific knowledge still in formation, unable to remedy all the consequences that these cigarettes cause on the individual’s health, as well as their effects on the mouth, the purpose of this article is to discuss the main results that scientific studies have found on this topic and propose an awareness of the population about its harmful effects on health and transmission of COVID-19 by sharing among users.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130215340","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a literature review focusing on the etiopathogenesis and the clinicopathologic features of this entity. In addition, we reported a rare case of an oral mucosal melanoma arising in the left cheek of a 60-year-old man. Computed tomography scan revealed infiltration of the tumor to other anatomic structures including the maxillary sinus, the zygomatic bone and the pterygoid processes. Based on its extension, the lesion was considered inoperable and treatment with three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy was proposed but the patient only attended to the first session and died from cancer progression 6 months after the diagnosis. This paper reinforces the importance of inclusion of this malignant tumor in the differential diagnosis of pigmented lesions of the oral mucosa.","PeriodicalId":177464,"journal":{"name":"International journal of odontostomatology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122966469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
