However, phased array radars that do not incorporate time-delay steering suffer dispersion loss and pulse broadening effects from wide bandwidth waveforms. This paper presents universal design curves for quantifying the effects of dispersion in corporate-fed (equal line length) phased arrays. These curves are applicable to all shapes of aperture (linear, rectangular, oval, or circular) and to all types of waveforms (unmodulated pulses, frequency modulated, and phased coded). Conversion factors are presented to convert physical aperture size to effective aperture size for different aperture shapes and illumination functions. Similarly, conversion factors are presented for determining effective pulse length for the radar pulses whether the pulses are unmodulated, phase coded, or frequency modulated with a large spread of time-sidelobe design levels.","PeriodicalId":177448,"journal":{"name":"1985 15th European Microwave Conference","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1985-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124328820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transverse Resonance Diffraction is used to form a system of two coupled integral eigenvalue equations for the propagation constant. This system is solved by the Galerkin's method leading to a scalar transverse equivalent circuit for the mode of propagation similar to that of a discontinuity in waveguide. The basis functions are chosen so as to take into account the correct boundary conditions for the field at the metal edges. Computed results for the dispersion are compared with experiment.","PeriodicalId":177448,"journal":{"name":"1985 15th European Microwave Conference","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1985-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117036249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Examples of power spectra obtained during calm summer nights, clear sky noons and in presence of clouds are shown.
