The level of EMR implementation, together with organizational maturity at a hospital level, are explored. What is discovered is that there are different adoption levels, not recorded in a systematic manner. The majority of physicians are either reluctant to implement EMRs or do not know options available to them. Implications include not continuous flow of events, cut off of critical information, lower quality of health services, patients not empowered to carry with them clinically significant information, unnecessary repetition of medical procedures and higher costs. It is concluded that focus should be paid on enabling the use of quality, interoperable and secure EMRs to better support medical decision, in an effort to improve the health of the population and to better control costs.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"162 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114573519","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This chapter addresses the problem of the early detection of dementia from two points of view: Detection based on unobtrusive paradigms both in lab and home environments (behavioral monitoring, serious games, home based assisted living applications in telemedicine) and detection based on neuroimaging approaches. The chapter also provides information on setting up ecologically valid home labs for dementia related experiments. Consequently, the aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of a complete methodology of how researchers can possibly detect or predict the onset of dementia through the current state-of-the-art, underline open challenges and illustrate future work in the field.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117269007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data was collected through a self-administered questionnaire distributed to over 5000 active members of the Australian Medical Association Queensland. A total of 588 valid responses were received from currently active care providers in Queensland. Multiple regression analysis and Chi-Square analysis were conducted to test the research hypotheses and answer the research question. The data revealed that while 72% of those surveyed were willing to adopt SEHRs, significant differences existed between public and private sector care providers and across the various tiers of the health system. In relation to the factors influencing future willingness to adopt, the variables comprising relative advantage were shown to have a significant impact upon future willingness to adopt shared electronic health records. The findings from this chapter will benefit those responsible for the future introduction of SEHRs, specifically by allowing policy makers to target the factors that influence care providers' willingness to adopt.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124725863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present two case studies as Hydroxyapatite are in medical applications and aluminum nitride as acoustic wave sensor. Hydroxyapatite, is the main inorganic structure of the tooth enamel and bone and is a biomaterial that is commonly used in biomedical applications that involve bone substitution, drug delivery and bone regeneration because of its excellent biocompatibility, high bioactivity and good osseoconductivity. Since the past decade. Aluminum nitride (AlN), an electrical insulating ceramic with a wide band gap of 6.3 eV, is a potentially useful dielectric material very important in fields such as optoelectronic and micro electronics.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129305840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to design a collaborative healthcare information system that satisfies the stakeholders' needs, all individual requirements have to be mapped into the software. Traditional system design focuses at technical features and oftentimes ignores social requirements like human factors or organizational structures. Instead of integrating existing processes and working habits into a system, a technical-focused design approach tries to force new behaviors. As a result, stakeholders could refuse to use collaborative healthcare information systems. In line with Kuutti (1991), we recommend activity theory as a rich framework to study and design collaborative information systems. We believe that activity theory analysis is particularly useful for healthcare settings where diverse stakeholders pursue very different goals. This book chapter offers a structured approach to analyze collaborative activities and to design the IT-support accordingly.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122022694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In NICU, there is a huge need to monitor the physiological conditions of the premature and full term infants. In such environment, the cry signal conveys significant information in terms of the distress of the infant and thereby needs of the infants can be well attended. Establishment of the portable device is thus essential for such scenario. This work enumerates a primitive experimental study on developing portable electronic medical device for infant cry recognition. The setup comprises of a voice recorder, NI My RIO processor with a Lab view followed by the LCD Tablet for display. The cry signals were recorded by placing the voice recorder in the incubator and were qualitatively assessed by the clinician and confirm its suitability for the experimental study. A threshold based classification was employed which sends the voice based alarm to the tablet. The continuous monitoring of such facility in NICU provides the behavioral status of the infant","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127539991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However till date both these disciplines i.e. life sciences and computer sciences have mostly progressed separately while recent studies are increasingly highlighting the impact of each discipline on the other. The chapter describes several features of biological systems which could be used for further optimizations of computer programs or could be engineered to harness necessary computational capabilities in lieu of traditional silico chip systems. We also highlight underlying challenges and avenues of implementations of cellular computing.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132601041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been observed that the conventional classification techniques have major limitations in discriminating the genes accurately. However, such kind of problems can be addressed by an ensemble technique to a great extent. In this paper, a hybrid RotBagg ensemble framework has been proposed to address the problem specified above. This technique is an integration of Rotation Forest and Bagging ensemble which in turn preserves the basic characteristics of ensemble architecture i.e., diversity and accuracy. Three different feature selection techniques are employed to select subsets of genes to improve the effectiveness and generalization of the RotBagg ensemble. The efficiency is validated through five microarray datasets and also compared with the results of base learners. The experimental results show that the correlation based FRFR with PCA-based RotBagg ensemble form a highly efficient classification model.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115394803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analyzing complex biological pathways for their disease association is still a drawn-out process and requires an integrative approach for comprehensive examination of proteins and interactions to identify candidate markers underlying major malignancies and genetic disorders. There is a need for an amalgamated approach to annotate all the sub-components and their associated interactions in a biological system. It is anticipated that analysis of biological pathways would serve as a valuable accompaniment for analyzing biomarkers in disease pathways and will also contribute scientific knowledge towards their better understanding.","PeriodicalId":177246,"journal":{"name":"Data Analytics in Medicine","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123343243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Gene regulatory network analysis is one of the gene expression data analysis tasks. Gene regulatory network aims to study the genes interactions topological organization. The regulatory network is critical for understanding the pathological phenotypes and the normal cell physiology. There are many researches that focus on gene regulatory network analysis but unfortunately some algorithms are affected by data size.
