Most of the population receives radiation doses from natural sources of ionizing radiation from 2 to 4 mSv/year, but in some areas their radiation levels exceed 10 mSv/year. The population of the Russian Federation receives the main collective dose of radiation from natural radiation while living and working in enclosed residential, public and industrial buildings. In them, the levels of ionizing radiation in buildings, as a rule, depend on the level of the radiation background of the territory, which is determined by the geological, geochemical features of the area and its terrain, as well as on the type of building, radioactivity of the building materials used, emanation and exhalation of radon and daughter products of its decay into rooms from the ground and building materials used. The average annual individual doses of ionizing radiation in buildings, with the exception of certain territories, are small, but they can in isolated cases cause somatic and genetic effects in humans. To reduce the likelihood of such consequences in the Russian Federation, a system of legal and organizational provision of radiation safety of the population during the construction and reconstruction of buildings was developed, environmental and hygienic requirements for it were determined.","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130216370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most ECM inventories have been based upon description and identification of fruitbodies with few work on ECM root tips of tropical tree species. Morpho-anatomical descriptions of root tips of 24 ECM Fabaceae/Detarioideae, Uapaca tree species, and Gnetum lianas were conducted in humid forest of South Cameroon. ECM forest clumps were the only resort sites for the more than 30 endemic ECM morphotypes, with apparently no host specificity. Distinguished by four colors – white, yellow, brown, and dark brown – and five textures – smooth, cottony, woolly, spiny and verrucose –, they differed from to the golden yellow coralloïdal Gnetum liana ECM with plectenchymatous mantle. Tree ECM were of monopodial-pinnate or -pyramidal types with external felt prosenchyma mantles shielded with abundant rhizomorphs, emanating hyphae and variously shaped cystida with clamp connections. These ECM fungal attributes may confer ECM associations with strong competitive abilities to strive at best on prevailing nutrient-poor acid soils and harsh conditions, thus better explaining tropical monodominance. Yet, much research is still needed to determine the role of below-ground ECM biodiversity on structure and functioning of tropical humid forests of the Congo basin.","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"20 S31","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132478784","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As an input data source, NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information data were used. Based on preliminary studies, the temperature analysis workflow was developed. The feature of the deployed workflow is an application of GIS analysis for temperature trend detection. As the main functions of GIS analysis, overlay analysis and Kriging interpolation were used. The temperature surfaces were constructed using the Kriging interpolation method to determine the temperature trend. The overlay analysis was applied based on the temperature surfaces for different time intervals. After overlaying procedure, the difference between two georeferenced surfaces was calculated. These differences allowed us to track the temperature changes throughout time. The results of surfaces subtraction were used for temperature variation analysis for different time intervals. The general picture emerging from the research is that the temperature grows for 0.2 C° each five years. As in previous studies, the results confirm that there is a distinct tendency in the temperature rising for one degree of Celsius during the last twenty years. The temperature trend has an essential geographical association. The most significant temperature changes are related to the southeast of Ukraine, proving the desert regions' increasing.","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"83 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-10-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128185243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Urban heat is not as a result of any one time event but a chain of processes associated with land use activities such as infrastructure development that replaces the green vegetation. This paper investigated how land surface temperature has changed in the Kumasi Metropolis in 10 years from an environment of low temperature to much warmer land surface temperature due to the loss of trees in the city. The objectives of the study were to assess the extent of Land Surface Temperature (LST) in the metropolis, determine the kind of correlation that exist between Land Surface Temperate and vegetation health and examine the extent to which vegetation has influenced the city temperature. Multiple methods were used to calculate Land Surface Temperature (LST) such as converting the digital numbers of Landsat 2009, 2015 and 2019 images to radiance, top of brightness temperature and at-sensor brightness temperature using the Plank’s inverse function. NDVI analysis was done by subtracting the near infrared bands from the red band, divided by addition of the near infrared band to the red Band. Study results showed a linear increase in LST from an average of about 18°C to 31°C. The NDVI result showed decline in vegetation cover as such the correlation analysis was a negative correlation showing places of high temperature had minimal vegetation cover while places of low temperature had more vegetation cover. ","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121098051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Optimized MFCs operating parameters as a function of energy produced include electrode material type, electrode size, salt bridge diameter, type of salt solution that used in salt bridge, and concentration of the salt solution used in the salt bridge. Three duplicates-MFCs for each parameter value were used. Output open-circuit voltage (OCV) was measured for each MFC one time daily and for one week for each tested operating parameter. Data obtained showed that (i) MFCs with copper electrodes produce output voltage significantly higher than MFCs with carbon brushes electrodes which, in turn, achieved output voltage significantly higher than both that achieved by MFCs with zinc electrodes and MFCs with manufactured carbon electrodes, (ii) MFCs with 10 mm salt bridge shown significantly higher output voltage than MFCs with both 16 and 24 mm salt bridges, (iii) KCl salt bridge in MFCs is significantly more efficient than NaCl salt bridges, and (iv) MFCs with 1M KCl salt bridges can produce output voltage significantly higher than that produced by MFCs with 3M KCl salt bridges. ","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116479627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A double chambered-MFC model (DS-MFC) operated by primary effluent wastewater as substrate was used. Four different COD-MFCs groups were constructed in three duplicates (input COD from 342 to 1733 mg/l). Initial COD value, electrode type, and salt bridge size and its concentration were set and fixed for each MFC group. After 15 days-startup period the MFCs were operated for 30 days. COD was measured for the twelve MFCs every two days and output voltage was measured every 24 hours. Results revealed that the COD of the substrate used in MFC at any time is related proportionally to output voltage from that MFC, and a logarithmic model was found that can be used to predict COD for a wastewater sample by measuring output voltage of MFC operated by that sample. Maximum COD removal percentage achieved in this study was 87.1 % which agrees with published research. A maximum output power achieved was 0.585 W/m3 treated. It was found that COD removal behavior for the first group (typical wastewater composition) was second order while the other three groups with higher concentrations was first order. The payback period of the system under consideration was estimated at 8.3 years (infeasible). If we include the environmental and energy challenge benefits of the system to its economic feasibility, the system feasibility could be considered appropriate. ","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132631670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Water-soluble ions (WSIs, i.e., F–, Cl–, NO3–, SO42–, K+, Na+, NH4+, Mg2+ and Ca2+) in PM2.5 were measured to investigate their characteristics and formation pathways. The average concentrations of PM2.5 at the urban sites were 55.5–59.0 µg m–3, which was 62.8–73.0% higher than that at rural site. SO42–, NO3–, NH4+ were the dominant ions, contributing to more than 90% of total WSIs. The coefficients of divergence for SO42– between the urban and rural sites were 0.15–0.17, indicating its relatively uniform distribution across Chongqing. Analysis of the formation mechanisms of SO42– and NO3– in PM2.5 suggested that the heterogeneous reaction was responsible for the high concentrations of sulfate among the four sites, whereas nitrate was formed mainly through homogeneous reactions at the urban sites. Furthermore, the results of trajectory clustering showed that the air pollution were mainly from local sources within the basin. Our findings on PM2.5 composition in Chongqing help to advance the knowledge on PM2.5 pollution in Chinese megacities, and to provide more evidence for further pollution mitigation. ","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"370 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115985423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The implementation of stormwater green infrastructure allows stormwater runoff to be filtered before entering waterways, reducing nutrient input. Stormwater green infrastructure includes installations such as green roofs, green alleyways, and parks which can provide environmental, mental and physical health benefits to local residents who may have lacked access to green space. However, such installations can also have the counter intuitive effect of gentrification, termed the ‘green space paradox’. Through the review of published literature and case studies, a holistic design of stormwater green infrastructure implementation is presented in this study, which includes public participation, sustainability, and equity of distribution. ","PeriodicalId":177098,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129234274","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
