In this paper, we study a design of a locally phase-varying metamaterial working near 10 GHz. It is made from a capacitive and an inductive grid. The phase-varying behavior is obtained with a regular increment of the gap between each unit cell of the capacitive grid in E field direction. This composite metamaterial is used as a partially reflecting surface in a resonant Fabry-Perot type cavity together with a patch antenna to constitute a compact (λ/28) steerable directive printed antenna. An 18° deflection of the antenna beam clockwise and 7° anticlockwise in H plane are obtained and a gain improvement is realized.","PeriodicalId":176786,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132052755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many authors extended the theory of classical orthogonal designs to the theory of generalized, real, or complex orthogonal designs and then applied it to construct spacetime block codes (STBCs) with the maximum possible diversity order while having a simple decoding algorithm for any given number of transmit and receive antennas. These codes achieve the maximum possible transmission rate for any number of transmit antennas using any arbitrary real constellation such as PAM. Unfortunatly, for any arbitrary complex constellation such as PSK and QAM, spacetime block codes were penelized by a rate strictly inferior to one for transmission with more than two antennas. In this correspondence we study the Alamouti code and its generalization, for both real and complex constellations, for any number of transmit antennas.","PeriodicalId":176786,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128119719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A small circular magnetic loop antenna, whose diameter is equal to 1 cm and thickness is equal to 0.5 mm operating at the frequency of 315 MHz in the ISM band, is proposed to limit this degradation. The electric properties of the human body, having a high dielectric constant and low impedance, are considered to design and simulate the loop antenna. We found that the magnetic field is less attenuated than the electric field in the human body that improves the signal level received by near field magnetic coupling.","PeriodicalId":176786,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"133 25","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113940083","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This approach is introduced to solve the problem of the relationship between circuit complexity and computation time. Therefore, this work consists of a development of simulation software based on this combination for planar circuits very jagged structure's simulation. The two layouts of the micro-strip trisection filter's simulation are made. The first layout has a higher selectivity on the high side of the pass-band and the second has a higher selectivity but on the low side of the pass-band. Design of aperture coupled microstrip antennas using a recently developed very fast optimization algorithm namely Differential Evolution [1] is proposed in this paper. The optimization algorithm is used to determine the dimensions as well as the transmission line feed positions for optimum matching over a given range of frequencies and substrate. For use of Differential Evolution in the optimal design of aperture coupled microstrip antennas, the fitness function is evaluated using the Method of Moments technique implemented through IE3D. In addition optimal design of the antenna using other conventional optimization techniques like real coded Genetic Algorithm and Particle Swarm Optimization are done and the results and performances are compared with those obtained by Differential Evolution (DE).","PeriodicalId":176786,"journal":{"name":"2011 11th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116746735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
