Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has been intelligently applied in space-to-ground, IoT-based remote sensing and imaging land applications for earth sustainability. The integrity and reliability of these GNSS services has been ensured with the digital signatures among the ground GNSS and edge IoT devices through the mobile terrestrial infrastructure. Edge IoT devices such as drones have traditionally suffered from unsustainable power consumption during mission critical operation such as hovering surveillance. These have been addressed by the introduction of perching drones that will reduce power consumption of the flying drones. Its critical safety aspect that will impact various human operations on the ground has been cleverly investigated through the design of dynamic design rules for flight operation.","PeriodicalId":175717,"journal":{"name":"World Forum on Internet of Things","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133963047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Wi-Fi-based WMSNs offer high bit rate video transmissions but suffer from energy inefficiency problems. To resolve the energy inefficiency problem, this paper proposes a hybrid system through the integration of Wi-Fi-based WMSN along with the LoRa network to form an autonomous and high bit rate, energy-efficient video surveillance system. The proposed solution used for intruder detection and tracking is investigated. By taking the advantages of LoRa network characteristics (i.e., low cost, long range and low- power consumption), this paper proposes to use the LoRa network as an always-active network for preliminary motion detection and transmitting sensed information to the central controller so that the central controller can decide which visual sensor nodes to wake up or shut down. Based on the target detection and tracking information, the central controller can forward a control command through the LoRa network for completely shutting down the visual sensor nodes that are idle. Further, the central controller can wake up the visual sensor nodes that are needed and participating in the video vigilance activity. Thus, it reduces the energy consumption in the network. The hybrid proposed system is numerically simulated, and the results show that the proposed approach can help in reducing a significant amount of energy consumption. Hence, the proposed approach is a new knowledge contribution towards the energy-efficient systems in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain.","PeriodicalId":175717,"journal":{"name":"World Forum on Internet of Things","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116212867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main challenges are related to the optimization of the devices connected to the internet, mainly power consumption, but also reliability and security. In this paper, the focus is on security issues, primarily the ones related to intellectual property at the layout level. The physical design of devices for IoT can use several approaches to increase the difficulty of reverse engineering. One is the use of camouflage, which means the insertion of dummy segments of metal or dummy contacts/vias, just to become more difficult the reverse engineering. Another is the use of transistor reordering, which allows implementing a function using different topologies or transistor orderings. The use of layout design automation also helps to obtain different layouts for the same logic function, even a way to make reverse engineering difficult. These layout design techniques are explored in this paper, showing how we can improve security at the physical design level of abstraction.","PeriodicalId":175717,"journal":{"name":"World Forum on Internet of Things","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116451878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work defines three new concepts: a) the paradigm of edge/cloud computing transparency that lets the computation nodes change dynamically without administrator intervention; b) the IoT computing topology management that gives an IoT system global view, from the hardware and communication infrastructures to the software deployed on them, and c) the automation and integration of IoT visualization systems for real time data visualization, current IoT topology and current paths of data flows. It is also defined a new architectural model that includes these concepts and covers other IoT demands, like security safeguard services based on Blockchain. This architectural model definition is taken as the basis for developing a new advanced IoT platform referred as SAT-IoT.","PeriodicalId":175717,"journal":{"name":"World Forum on Internet of Things","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117127301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
