An interface agent's major decision tasks include an autonomous problem solver (i.e., identification and/or diagnosis of system anomalous states and deciding appropriate actions) and a display manager to human users (operators). Attainment of these tasks should be managed under scarce time resources. The formulation is made with respect to the hierarchically organized concepts of plant anomalies that are available to an interface agent by applying a concept formation method.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. We proposed an assistance system for crane operation using an interactive adaptation interface. The assistance system produces various kinds of operational assistance. In this paper, we propose a crane simulator system for operation training using the proposed crane system. The proposed system has a function called multimodal display which presents various kinds of operational assistance. We consider the realization of the training system by adaptation of the strength of operational assistance based on operator's state; we focus on the operators skill level. We propose an adaptation method based on operational skill and perform simple operation experiments to confirm the effectiveness of the method described.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. The method is based on 2-dimensional detection of the temperature distribution of the face, using infrared rays. The front-view face in the input image is normalized in terms of location and size, followed by measurement of the temperature distribution, the locally averaged temperature and the shape factors of face. The measured temperature distribution and the locally averaged temperature are separately used as input data for a neural network, while the values of shape factors are used for supervised classification. By integrating information from the NN and supervised classification, the face was identified with excellent accuracy. The shortcoming of visible ray image analysis that the accuracy of face identification is strongly influenced by lighting condition including variation of shadow, reflection and darkness is considered to be perfectly overcome by the present method exploiting infrared rays.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. By using this lens we optically obtain foveated information (distorted image). Neural networks are used to make a computer to recognize the real shapes of traffic marks correctly from the distorted image. In this paper, a feature generation method based on discrete cosine transformation is described. The features are used in a backpropagation trained neural networks. We conclude this method can be used in a robot fitted with wide angle vision sensors and the high distortion lens to recognize the traffic makes effectively.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. Hypermedia systems have become increasingly popular as tools for information retrieval, however, links in hypermedia are static and have to be defined manually hands. Furthermore there are problems in evaluation methods for these database systems. This paper describes a dynamic linkage method for text data based on the self-organizing map. The feature of our approach lies in the fact that this method automatically groups texts and generates links among them. We also propose an evaluation method for the self-organizing map. A prototype system was developed and some experiments were carried out to evaluate our system.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. The agent is a mobile robot whose recognition capabilities and behavior represents a knowledge. The recognition is the estimation of a person's intentions and emotions using sensor information. The behavior is the forward and the backward displacement of the agent. The emotions of the agent are represented by the status \"like\" or \"dislike\", depending on the situation when the agent likes or dislikes the person. Finally, the awareness is the behavioral intention of the agent. The agent approaches the person or goes away from him based on the model. Experiments show the effectiveness of this model.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication. An array of bits which represents all pixel numbers in an image is defined as the genotype of an individual. The length of a gene information is fixed and the number of pixels to compose a closed curve is not limited. Therefore a proper closed curve can be extracted even if it has complicated form and a long contour. As the experiment result, visual proper closed curves were extracted in noisy images efficiently by the method.","PeriodicalId":174564,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings 6th IEEE International Workshop on Robot and Human Communication.
