Data collection was carried out through information from the students -the use of a student questionnaire and their final individual written reflections on the use of Evernote as eportfolio- and from the teachers - content analysis of the formal aspects of the e-portfolio construction. The results point out a general satisfaction with the tool for the development of the e-portfolio and the advantages and disadvantages of Evernote as eportfolio are discussed.","PeriodicalId":173596,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125500697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This work tries to share our experience about the reasons why they do not utilize academic databases. Past experiences, seeking convenience, and the availability of automatic translation in search engines seem to be the main reasons. Several suggestions are offered that aim to increase the level of competency of students in utilizing academic databases. Furthermore, students should also be informed adequately about the potential threats in using search engines as their only online information source.","PeriodicalId":173596,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132729736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For many years, universities implemented their own LMSs or chose between Blackboard, Desire2Learn, Instructure Canvas, Moodle, Pearson LearningStudio, Sakai or other educational platforms. Recently, many new LMSs, such as Edmodo, Litmos LMS, TalentLMS, Docebo, are providing new facilities for content management and collaboration between users for a range of different devices (computers and mobile devices). Higher education must face challenges related to funding, global competition, while supporting students who are mobile and diverse. Efficient solutions must be found to solve those challenges. This paper presents a LMS solution implemented at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, entitled ICE-Integrated Communication Environment, that combines locally developed components and software with applications from the Office 365 academic licensed suite. The initial implementation of the solution started within the DidaTec structural funds project that was financed between 2010–2014. The paper describes the configuration of the ICE LMS, the applications used for the management of content, collaboration between users (students, teachers), and several student assessment statistics from its usage.","PeriodicalId":173596,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Information Technology Based Higher Education and Training","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126914884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
