For example, a benchmark data set of moving object trajectories is required for experiments on query processing of moving object databases. For these reasons, several tools have been developed for generating moving objects in Euclidean spaces or road network spaces. Indoor space differs from outdoor spaces in many aspects and moving object generator for indoor space should reflect these differences. In this paper, we present a moving object generation tool for indoor space. First, this tool generates trajectories for pedestrians in an indoor space. And it provides a parametric generation of trajectories considering not only speed, number of pedestrians, minimum distance between pedestrians but also type of spaces, time constraints, and type of pedestrians. We try to reflect the patterns of pedestrians in indoor space as realistic as possible. For the reason of inter-operability, several geospatial standards are used in the development of the tool.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"51 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115978600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

GNSS based outdoor localization has limitation of accuracy, which deteriorates in urban canyons, forested region and is unavailable indoors. Technologies like RFID, UWB, WiFi are used for indoor localization. These suffer limitations of high infrastructure costs, and signal transmission issues like multi-path, and frequent replacement of transciever batteries. We propose an alternative to localize an individual or a vehcile that is moving inside or outside a building. Instead of mobile RF transceivers, we utilize a sensor suite that includes a video camera and an inertial measurement unit. We estimate a motion trajectory of this sensor suite using Visual Odometery. Instead of preinstalled transceivers, we use GIS map for outdoors, or a BIM model for indoors. The transport layer in GIS map or navigable paths in BIM are abstracted as a graph structure. The geo-location of the mobile platform is inferred by first localizing its trajectory. We introduce an adaptive probabilistic inference approach to search for this trajectory in the entire map with no initialization information. Using an effective graph traversal spawn-and-prune strategy, we can localize the mobile platform in real-time. In comparison to other technologies, our approach requires economical sensors and the required map data is typically available in the public domain. Additionally, unlike other technologies which function exclusively indoors or outdoors, our approach functions in both environments. We demonstrate our approach on real world examples of both indoor and outdoor locations.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127111969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indoor positioning raises new challenges, locating a target device requires the wireless sensors networks and other technologies. Sensor networks deployed in buildings are commonly used for many applications based on location: surveillance, detection, navigation, etc. These indoor locating sensors generate lot of data related to tracking information. Exploiting this information for investigation issues for example remains a relevant purpose. The context of this paper is related to indoor locations systems based on wireless cell, ICCARD sensors and video surveillance cameras. In this context, as no global reference system similar to GPS is available, the location information issued from various systems, platforms, devices, etc. have neither standards nor common formats, and remain heterogeneous. This heterogeneity is mainly due to the different types of positions (geometric, symbolic, etc.) expressed w.r.t. various reference systems. In order to manage them in a given framework, it is necessary to homogenize the relevant (Meta) data to process the global knowledge they can give. This paper presents a contribution to extend our framework [1] to information generated by location sensor networks deployed in an indoor environment. The use case is illustrated in a forensic application [2].","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"11 24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124379192","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Example queries include \"what is the best position for placing a surveillance camera in an indoor space?\" \"what is the best position for placing a notice board in a doctor's station or a billboard in a city for a particular font size?\" or \"which hotel gives the best view of the city skyline?\". These queries require computing and differentiating the visibility of a target object from each viewpoint of the surrounding space. This paper presents IndVizCMap that constructs a visibility color map (VCM), where each point in the space is assigned a color value denoting the visibility measure of the target. IndVizCMap is a scalable, efficient and comprehensive solution to construct VCM for a fixed target that considers the partial visibility of the target from viewpoints. Data structures for the fixed target support incremental updates of the VCM if the target moves to near-by positions. More importantly, IndVizCMap can output VCM considering readability of text data displayed on target.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124953763","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing models neglect the intersection between O-Space and I-Space, only allowing for computations such as shortest path and nearest neighbor queries in either O-Space or I-Space, separately. In this paper, we present two different outdoor-indoor space (OI-Space) models allowing queries to operate on a mix of both spaces. The first model keeps the distinct nature of the two spaces intact by having explicit connections between outdoor and indoor spaces. The second model abstracts this distinction away, and provides a unified model of outdoor-indoor space. For each model, we present an algorithm that is able to span the two types of spaces to return the real shortest path between two arbitrary points. The experimental evaluations show that the proposed models and algorithms perform well enough to be usable in practice.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"279 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125852802","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, we propose a novel Wi-Fi indoor positioning and tracking framework which employs the spatial analysis and image processing techniques. The Wi-Fi surfaces can be dynamically constructed and updated and thus help to address the challenges of signal spatial heterogeneity and environmental variations. A mobile app for indoor positioning application has been developed as a proof of concept. Based on the experiments we conducted at the Esri campus, this method can achieve about 2-meter positioning accuracy. The proposed methodology and theoretical frame-work can guide engineers to implement cost-effective indoor positioning infrastructure, and thus offer insights on future smart campus applications. The introduced spatial analysis and geoprocessing workflow may also bring the attention of GIScientists to make more efforts to conquer the indoor positioning and tracking challenges.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130776549","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their success is hindered by limitations in their technology, accuracy and cost. This research provides an approach for localization and navigation based on the topological property of connectivity between spatial entities combined with qualitative information gathered from the user. In the research, a model and an algorithm is developed for localization and navigation in indoor space. It provides the user with the information necessary to express their unique location qualitatively using properties of spatial entities. The spatial entities and the accessibility property between them are stored in a graph-based data structure. The user's location and navigation path are derived using spatial queries that combine qualitative user input with the stored properties. Localization is provided only when the user provides input and is, therefore, an alternative solution to when sensor based technologies are limited or costly. A proof of concept application is implemented using the algorithm for a selected floor plan of a shopping mall.","PeriodicalId":173431,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Eighth ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Indoor Spatial Awareness","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117007318","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
