The DA is fabricated in a commercially available 0.15 µm GaAs p-HEMT technology. The amplifier exhibits 13 dB of small gain over 40 GHz of 3 dB bandwidth with a power consumption equal to 550 mW. Group delay time variation up to 30 GHz is only ±7 ps. The output power is higher than 16 dBm (4 Vpp), which makes the circuit suitable as a preamplifier for lithium-niobate (LiNbO3) optical modulator driver. The DA is demonstrated as a part of the modulator driver in a 12.5 GBps PAM-4 (25Gbps) optical system by using the eye diagram as a figure of merit.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114972219","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This contribution presents the design and measured results of variable phase shifters on triplicate suspended transmission lines in the microwave X-band for variable pointing radar applications. The antenna assembly remains passive and with a very low level of losses in the power distribution network and the phase shifters. PIN or varactor diodes are used to control the load on the transmission line. Each of these components has advantages and disadvantages that are discussed are presented in the communication.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"227 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117123076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It illuminates test objects with a circularly polarized lens antenna with 30 dBi gain and 3.5 degree beamwidth. For the detection of hidden objects, specific practical aspects of the polarizer design and measurement need to be addressed, since polarizer performance is degraded by reflections between the input and output ports. A measurement scheme for characterization of a polariser by measurement is presented. The results presented here on imaging in the W-band system demonstrate a clear benefit of circular polarization over a linearly polarized system, despite the increased system complexity.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124933053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to theories of the UWB radar, the lower center frequency is, the better penetrability radar has. And the larger bandwidth is, the higher radar range resolution becomes. In order to detect survivors trapped under the ruins of collapsed buildings, researches commonly focus on the radar with center frequency below 500 MHz. However, the radar with low center frequency always has small bandwidth, so it is relatively insensitive to the weak signal of the survivor. And this may lead to miss detection in search and rescue missions. Therefore, a novel dual-frequency IR-UWB radar system is developed in this paper. It can works alternately at each waveform with two center frequencies, which are 270 MHz and 400MHz. And the equivalent bandwidth of the system is relatively extended to enhance the sensitivity to weak vital signals. Moreover, cross-correlation technique is applied to the processed data of the two channels to improve the detected signal to noise ratio (SNR). The experimental results show that this system can both meet the need of low center frequency and large bandwidth in life detection and the detected SNR of the system is much higher than that of the single-frequency IR-UWB radar. So this system can work more reliably and effectively in the detection of people trapped under the ruins.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123295686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For example, the generation of a quadratic phase distribution for large near-field focused (NFF) array antennas is difficult because of the limitation of the phase control capability of the traditional beam-forming network. In this paper, a three dimensional (3D) curved substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) transmission line is proposed as a feeding carrier to enhance the amplitude and phase control capability. The longitudinal position of the slotted SIW is employed sufficiently to break the limitation of amplitude and phase control capability. On this basis, the 3D curved SIW can be applied to design the NFF generator that requires high phase control capability. A leaky-wave SIW slot array antenna is designed to slow the sharp change in phase to increase the element density, and compensate focal shift caused by the frequency steering. Finally, the NFF 3D curved SIW slot array antenna is fabricated and measured. It has the ability of wide steerable range with stable height.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122577602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

IQ imbalance is known to cause severe distortion in OFDM receivers, manifesting itself as interference from one side of the received spectrum to the other side and vice versa. Various methods have been designed in the wireless communications context to estimate and compensate the receiver IQ imbalance. We adopt here an approach where the radar waveform is designed to be robust against IQ imbalance. We derive an analytical criterion to achieve this robustness. We validate the effectiveness of our method with simulation results.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114187669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Range-Doppler maps are recorded with a 77 GHz chirp-sequence radar sensor. The proposed networks are verified with an application to detect states like boiling in cooking processes. The network achieves an accuracy of 99.17% over six classes while being lightweight and fast. After training, the trained networks are analyzed with a technique that extracts the learned patterns of the network. The effect of pooling layers in convolutional neural networks is discussed due to the loss of detailed information in Range-Doppler maps.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129730853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As opposed to earlier versions of this work, baseband low pass filtering is performed by the integrated variable gain amplifier (VGA) thus eliminating the need for an off-chip low pass filter (LPF) together with the required chip pads needed for this external filter. Fabricated on an IBM 0.18 μm BiCMOS process as part of a dual band FMCW radar transceiver (TRX), the measured RX performance is in good agreement with simulations and measurements from previous RX versions with the external LPF achieving a dynamic range of more than 50 dB and a baseband signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of around 18 dB at −70 dBm radio frequency (RF) input power and an input-referred 3rd order intercept point (IIP3) of around −7 dBm. To the best of the author’s knowledge, with a chip area of 2.4 mm2, this filterless dual band FMCW radar TRX has the highest level of integration reported in the literature.","PeriodicalId":171460,"journal":{"name":"2018 15th European Radar Conference (EuRAD)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126805243","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
