In this study, we replicate previous research on the influence of psychological states on moral foundations, system justification, and political orientation among Japanese participants. Consistent with previous findings, empathy is positively associated with care and fairness (called individualizing foundations) whereas epistemic needs to manage certainty (e.g., need for closure) are positively associated with ingroup loyalty, respect for authority, and purity (called binding foundations). Empathy and the need for closure indirectly affect political orientation and system justification through their influence on moral foundations. Contrary to previous findings, we find empathy to be positively associated with binding foundations whereas the need for closure is positively associated with individualizing foundations. This study aimed to confirm these findings by investigating the moderating effects of culture on the association between perceived social expectations regarding helping and affect. Japanese ( n =164) and American ( n =177) adults recalled a recent situation in which they helped someone and responded to a questionnaire regarding need satisfaction and affect. As expected, the Japanese subjects showed a stronger positive association between the perceived social expectation that they should help and positive affect than the Americans. This study investigated how implicit theories moderate the effects of selection systems, which are prevalent in educational settings, on individual effort. The results indicated that when entity theorists (people who think ability is fixed) who performed relatively well received negative feedback and were not selected, they exerted less effort compared with incremental theorists (people who think ability is malleable). The participants were privately asked about their preference for independence or interdependence and their expectations regarding others’ independent or interdependent behavior. Then, they were asked to publicly express whether their own behavior was indicative of independence or interdependence. When comparing the participants’ preferences, expectations, and actual behavior, I found that interdependence was only evident in their expectations and public behavior; i.e., the participants answered that they preferred independence rather than interdependence, whereas they expected that others are interdependent and identified themselves as interdependent in public. Many studies of risk perception have found that value similarity determines trust in risk managers. Some studies have demonstrated that value similarity also influences trust in AI. AI is currently employed in a diverse range of domains, including asset management. However, little is known about the factors that influence trust in asset management-related AI. We developed an investment game and examined whether shared investing strategy with an AI advisor increased the participants’ trust in the AI. In this study, questionnaire data were analyzed (n=101), and it was revealed that shared investing strategy had no significant effect on the participants’ trust in AI. In addition, it had no effect on behavioral trust. Perceived ability had significantly positive effects on both subjective and behavioral trust. This paper aims to analyze the structure of human well-being related to ecosystem services in Japan (including coastal and inland areas). Satisfaction levels with the five components of human well-being (basic material for a good life, health, good social relations, security, and freedom of choice and action), as defined by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, were investigated using a questionnaire. Of the five components, structural equation modeling analysis indicated that “security” and “basic materials for a good life” functioned as explanatory variables, while “freedom of choice and action” acted as a dependent variable through its effects on the intermediate variables “health” and “good social relations”. This study obtained similar findings to previous studies regarding the structure of human well-being.
